[Complete] Project: PC Master Race Takeover

dezrow
This is a build I didnt even intend on doing, however when a friend of mine spills water all over his brand new console, I have to capitalize on it. =)

Specs so far.

Case: Xbox One
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258
Cooler: ID-Cooling IS-40
Mobo: Asus Z87 Maximus vi Impact
Ram: 8GB G-skill DDR3 1333MHz
PSU: HDPLEX 250W HTPC PSU
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960

Once i get the motherboard fixed in the with the i/o backplate then it will be time to measure the space i have left and make the final decision on what GPU/PSU i am going to use. Right now it is between SFX and TFX PSU's. My options for GPU's could end up being pretty limited if i am not going to be able to fit a full width card in it, but MSI and Gigabyte do both make Half-height GTX 750ti's which are both low power and really small.

Please note. All parts on this a either second hand or parts i had lying around except for the GPU and PSU which have yet to be finalized, so if you have a problem with my choices you can look at someone else's build.

Don't you just feel empty inside?

Time to use the dremel to grind/cut down all of that stuff on the bottom. Needs to be smooth

Middle plastic junk has been grinded down. Backplate has been installed and motherboard has been test fitted!

Here are a couple pics from the expansion slot installation. Looks a bit rough right now but nothing some sanding, grinding and paint wont fix! GPU and CPU cooler both come in today with the Kill A Watt so wattage testing, painting and possibly starting to put everything in the case may happen in the next two days!

960, and kill a watt came in so it is time to do some benching to test some wattage!

Benckmarks and full thermals will be coming in my final post.  Also may Update the first post to include the whole build once my final post is up. Thank you all for the kind words and support!

Height is the biggest issue with this case. Measuring from the outside it only has 80mm of room. adapter/extension cables are going to save my bacon with this build though. PCI-e riser just came in too. On a side note, I LOVE the amount of ventilation this thing has.

I plan on making this right. As clean as possible and spending the time this project deserves on it.

I have calculated multiple times last year when I was planning something like this, but didn't find an XBONE case for sale, so I dropped it.

You can fit an ITX mobo, a normal sized GPU, like a Gigabyte Windforce 7950 and an ATX PSU(barely). If you go for an ITX version of the 970 or 960 you could also fit like 2-3 3.5" HDD's, although  stacked

ATX psu will not fit. they are too tall for the case Ill try again once i get the insides flattened down . Its not really an issue though because there are some pretty amazing SFX for factor PSU's that will afford me plenty of room so air can move around.

Yeah, right. It is 9cm tall, which is the same height as my PSU, but the inside is only 8cm, right? You could save alot of space with a Silverstone PSU

Alright, so the internet has lied to me, I looked up the dimensions of it and it said it's 9cm, I guess I can't trust the interwebz anymore :(

Now I need to permanently fix mobo standoffs to case and resurface the bottom because its pretty ugly right now.

Looking good. Good luck bro  ;)

I'd recommend a low profile cooler for that cpu, probably a Noctua L9i because it's silent. Are you going to use the touch power button or nah?

I am going to attempt to get the touch button to work. i kept the front panel board that has the controller chip for it but it may end up being outside of my wheelhouse where my skills are concerned. Worst case scenario is that ill be using the sync button on the side as power. I am however installing an RGB light behind it so it will still light up.

Good work so far. If you plan on doing a GPU, do not stress too much about the height or width of the card. I would personally try to find any low TDP GPU that has a rear-exhaust type blower on it. With enough proper ventilation, you can exhaust most of the generated heat out of the back of that case where the Rear-I/O is. Maybe cut a square in the top of the case, cover it with some mesh so the card can still try to pull some air from the outside of the case, onto the GPU, and out the rear of the case. Removing as much heat as possible from the inside of that case will work wonders. The GTX 750 Ti is about the strongest low TDP card i can think of that will suit this design.

I would consider talking to @ungreedy as he has a nice PSU setup and a really good cooler from ID Cooling i think. the Is-40 or something like that. Good luck on this build, cannot wait to see it finished!
