Apple tv replacement

so me and my dad are looking for a apple tv replacement. ours is like 7 years old. and we need something better... what do you guys suggest ?

we basicly need to be able to stream from our network storage , our mac, or my computer w/ hdmi output ofc

I would build a little HTPC, but that's probably a bit expensive

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

I can look in a close bazzar wich has a lot of random pc parts... usually 5-10$ each depending on the part...   anyway it needs to be 100$ or less

50-80ms not bad at all

The FireTV or Nexus Player are looking to be the bet options at the moment. Especially if you wanted to use an awesome app like Plex to manage the media. 

In terms of streaming directly from say a network share for example, I'm not 100% sure on that compatibility, but I assume something like that would be available. I'm looking into getting one of those two boxes myself (though living in New Zealand makes things difficult). I used to use an apple TV 2nd Gen Jailbroken and running plex. It was great and all, but becoming outdated, only 720P and it had to be jailbroken. These new devices coming out are so awesome!

Personally I find an HTPC overkill / not ideal, unless you wanted something to also do PC gaming on the big screen on.... Otherwise they seem to be a waste of money compared the the highly capable streaming boxes available to us today for ~$100USD.

I love all technology. The perfection of macs for my designer side, and the hardware and fun of tinkering on the of the pc side. We can have it all, just not at the same time.
