Far cry 4 runs really smothly

zappian

I really hate ubisoft but the far cry 4 pc version on its latest patch runs very smoothly.

Compared to FC3 it runs quite worse but still i was expecting much worse after unity.

I have a fairly mediocre rig ( i3 4160 + 270x) and it runs very very smoothly.

Yep, it's all about tweaking the right settings and knowing the most common reasons of performance problems, and most games just run great after you learn that.

1440x900 ( my monitor res) , very high settings

It ran like crap on my old phenom , apparently this game likes intel cpus alot.

No it has a very drawcall-heavy mainthread. And what do AMD chips do exceptionally poor? Games which rely on high per-core performance..

I can't even open it on my PC :/.

It opens and closes instantly, tried re-installing and putting it on different ssds, trying different drivers as well. No luck.

My friend @MegaDave91 said sometimes maxwell has issues with fc4 or something

My maxwell has no problems. and runs it smacking up against the 60fps limit.... like a red headed stepchild.

Well, at 1440x900 I would have been surprised if it DIDN'T run well. It's not a great port, but it's still WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than unity or even watch dogs.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Both those games run like crap at 1440x900.

Thats why i bought a 270x , because its complete overkill for my monitor.

Still unity runs like crap even at this resolution.

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHA... Unity. HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. I think my point is made...

...you have a 780... that fps isn't great considering how fast that gpu is.

No, it really is not. That's what you should be getting at 1440p.

Yeah unity isn't actually that graphically demanding. except for it's drawcalls. the problem with this on current gen is never going to be the hardware. It's actually a shortfall of directX. Which is whyt although it may suck balls on PS4 it still runs better than a 5960X with gtx980s in sli...

Yep no issue there.

I have an R9 290 which is more or less equivalent. But I think you're misunderstanding my point here; I'm not saying you are getting bad framerates because of your setup. I'm saying the game isn't well optimized and in a well optimized game you should get that framerate on 1440p.

directx is not the problem. the problem are incompetent game developers. we have had loads of great looking games that perform well on DX 11.

Yea.. But still, its a quite good game. Nice gameplay, nice graph, nice environment, but terrible framerate (people said so)

But to me, 55 FPS is ok. Since im using 60Hz IPS panel anyway.

yup, directx is a framework to build upon, and a few years ago it was so far in advance of what anyone could see it was a good framework. now, not so much, for the last gen or two we've seen graphics cards butting up against software. I'm not disagreeing that unity is a poorly optimised game, honestly it sucks ass. Cysis might have pushed a PC to it's limits but at least it had headroom in the code that if you had the hardware you could run something pretty special,
