Powerline recommendations....?

Lazmarr

Can anybody recommend a pair of powerline adapters, like a starter kit?

Idealy I would like it to have wifi extension capabilites and a pass through with at least 2 ethernet ports but would really really like it to have 3. Although the pass through is not a necessity.

Please recommend products in the UK for ~£30

So your after something like this?

http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/?categoryid=2244&model=TL-WPA4226KIT

That one has 2x ethernet ports, can extend your wifi, and also has power point passthrough, which I highly recommend.

A little bit pricey :/

Think I found this one which looks decent, do I require anything else or is that all I need? :)

That one looks fine, but you don't have wireless extender capability on that (not that I can see), or power pass through, so you'll loose a powerpoint.

I have used quite a few TP-Link products before, and they are decent quality. Currently I use NetComm powerline adapters (3 of them) and they have been working well.

Yeah I mean I get alright wifi for my PC and phone but it doesn't reach my laptop and xbox I seen the TP link with 3 ports which is enough for all my devices xD

Do you think it's worth the price?

Yes I do. I'm really glad I got powerline. I use to have wifi to my desktop and my Media Centre PC, and I don't regret switching to Powerline adapters. It's way more convenient than running ethernet cable, much faster than wireless (especially for gaming!), and it's very easy to set up.

Last question, on the product specifications it lists "3* 10/100Mbps Ethernet (RJ45) Ports". Will I get 500Mbps speed if only one device is using the port at a time or do all three ports only get 100Mbps?

Edit: I have fibre broadband with rated speeds of ~50 dl and ~20 upload, so what seeds will I likely get with this TP link powerline? :S

You'll get 100Mbps transfer speed as that is what the ethernet ports are rated at. The whole "500Mbps" is more of a selling point that the manufacturers love to throw around. That's just a theoretical speed that the adapter can handle. You can get Gigabit ehternet ports on power adapters, but I wouldn't worry about that as your LAN port on your computer is most likely 100Mbs as well, and they'll be quite pricey.

As for your fibre connection, it's hard to tell how fast your connection would be, but I wouldn't be too concerned about it. They'll be fast enough to carry those speeds across the power lines if they are in good condition.

Thank you very much, I placed the order and I shall see how it is tomorrow :)

Ok got it set up and all but the speeds are about the same as my wifi, a little better though :/ Anyway to improve the speeds?

What speed are you getting? Has your ping (latency) improved? Do a test at speedtest.net

I'm getting almost 30mbps dl and almost 10mins upload, my ping is around 15ms too.
