No Bridge for Crossfire HD 7850

I have recently purchased another Gigabyte Radeon HD 7850 2GB to add to my current build in crossfire.

My build is as follows:

Gigabyte Z77 DS3H

Intel i5 3470

Gigabyte Radeon HD 7850 2GB x2

I am wondering if it is possible to enable crossfire through XDMA, rather than through the crossfire bridge. While AMD's website indicates that this is only possible for the R9 200 series, I have found sources that indicate that the HD 6000 series may run in crossfire without a bridge, although I could not substantiate this through research in AMD's website.

Also, considering that my graphics cards will be running at x8 and x4 at gen 3 PCIE, will the extra data being transferred through the PCI slots hurt performance? I saw benchmarks from AnandTech that suggested that reducing the amount of lanes allocated to the 7970 hurt performance slightly - assuming it is possible to run these cards in crossfire without a bridge (and considering that the 7950 is significantly more powerful than the 7850), should I?

Thanks!

No, I had two gigabyte 7850 which I sold now btw. They did not work without a CFX bridge. For me the CFX option didnt com eup. However this was with 12.0 Catalyst...

BTW, why did you buy another 7850... A 7970 would have been better

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

I got the 7850 because it was cheaper and I could be sure I got the exact same card for compatibility. Also, some of the extra money I spent on the 7970 would be wasted, because the extra vram wouldn't be used because my 7850 only has 2 GB.

Thanks for the response! I'll just get the bridge and test it with and without it - I don't like how it looks, but if I need it or it gives my system better performance, then I'll just bite the bullet.
