lol :P  na it's no big deal.  I actually quite like my 4790k, maybe more than I liked my 3930k, the single thread performance is definitely an improvement.

The only depressing part is, that 3930k was a monster overclocker & I sold it along with the RIVE to a friend, and it now runs at stock speeds... :(

don't you use you're 4p machine anymore for folding @tobben? :)

Well, not really, currently rocking the house in asteroid@home :P

Although i will likely change to Einstein@home when i get to read

more about it, or something else.

From what i gather, gpus and cpus are pretty much doing the

same thing at this point. Just that gpu's are a heck of alot faster

and more troublesome to deal. I will throw my gpu power at

folding but steer my cpu resources elsewhere. In spite of this

being abit half baked logic.

Something I've always wondered:  Are GPU's more bang for the buck in terms of PPD?  I see tons of people with 4P systems, but not a lot of people with like 5-10 GPU's in separate systems, always wondered about that.

I'd assume the server processors are faster than my 4790k, but my 4790k was $330 and gets like 1/10th of what one of my 970's gets, for $359.

By an order of magnitude, or several. Yeah i'd say so.

And it's usually easier to add more gpu's  compared to

getting more cpu's :P

edit: you sneaky bugger, editing the message just as i reply.

Why do so many people have 4p systems then? Is it easier to set up & maintain or something, or is it because of power bills etc? O.o

I'm not sure if "so many people" have 4P systems, there were several

of the value oriented ones going around. But that was mostly due to

bigadv, big advanced work units. A project that is now terminated.

As the name implies, bigger wu's aimed at multi processor machines.

But it was cancelled due to some back and forth drama.. bigadv yielded

alot more ppd than normal cpu folding if you met the requirement.

on the right wu i would hover around 500k ppd on my machine, and now

i would likely sit around 150+k ish just for reference.

They were pretty easy to setup. Expensive, yes, but for the same PPD a year or two ago, you would have needed a monster GPU farm. Also, more power efficient then 10 GPU's. :)  Not so much in the last six months. I think we will see most 4P system going the way of BOINC over the next year or so...

ya, got them not to long ago.

sold my hd800+schiit Lyr so I could buy a bunch of stuff like 2 970's and a logitech g27, new SSD, air 540 + the k712's.

K712 are actually remarkably close sounding to the hd800, for 1/5th the price if you get em used, totally recommend

@tobben @Whaler_99 I re-installed it but it didn't pick the changes up, do I need to delete "data" as well?  I didn't really want to lose my 2 work units I was doing on the GPU's, but I will if I need to.

I tried manually letting F@H make a GPU slot, but it just picks my second 970 up again.

Should I try re-installing and deleting the data this time, so it'll fully set everything up?

EDIT: I believe I fixed it, man what a pain lol  I just had to manually tell it to use slot #2, for some reason GPU-0 is my 7950 even though it's in the bottom PCI-E slot, wtf. lol

Seems like you got it to work? woo! awesome :)

yeah, your index doesn't  necessarily correspond to your pci-e slots.

There was something to type in cmd to check, but i don't remember

what. It can become abit messy with several amd/nvidia cards with

cuda/opencl indexes.

haha, nice :P. Try pausing the cpu slot, the ppd might just increase

abit after a minute or so. Although 625k is alot.. are any/all cards

overclocked?

The 970's are running at 1418 mhz on both of them, 7950 is at stock.

The first 970 in slot #1 runs at 1418 mhz without an overclock, gpu boost does it or w/e, but the second card only boosts to 1392, so I overclock it with nvidia inspector to 1418 so they both get WU's done relatively the same speed.

@tobben I was watching twitch.tv in source & doing some other stuff, PPD dropped down to 550k from the 625k it was at, I paused CPU slot and it's back up to 620k.

I'll try closing everything and letting the monitors go to sleep and see what it hits.

this has always been the issue with multiple GPU's and especially AMD/NVidia mix's - getting the index's setup properly and I know many times FAH won't even report the correct cards sometimes, even though they all work.

If you have 3+ GPU's running, all which need a little CPU, I would simply not bother with CPU folding. If anything, maybe do some Chrome Folding on light to utilize the CPU if you really want to. :)

I guess gigabyte is more aggressive, i'm running at roughly the same

speed with a mild 100 mhz overclock. And i guess my 7950 just plain

sucks and always have :P, usually don't see more than 60-80k on it.

on my 3770k, even medium chrome folding with the cpu staying at around 60%

will impact the gpu tpf as much as full desktop folding. Light on chrome  doesn't

seem to make a difference on the gpu tpf, but that hardly does much...
