Build for media production and a bit of gaming ;)

Sup peeps :)

I'm planning a new build around May or something like that. My computer will have a lot of heavy use, such as Adobe Premiere, a bit of AutoCAD for university as well as music production in Cubase/Pro Tools as I'm a part-time semi-pro musician.

My main concern is whether my CPU and GPU will actually be enough to do what I want to with this build, which is to be able to pre-render very quickly in order to be able edit my videos fast. To put things in perspective, I'm still running a Q6600, 8GB DDR2 and a HD5850. I take good care of my shit and like it to last a long time.

I will not be overclocking due to personal preferences, hence the non-k CPU. I'll use a high-end CPU cooler to just make things hilariously stable. I'd like opinions and suggestions on the vital components - that being CPU, GPU, the importance of having faster memory etc.

Components such as the Case, CPU Cooler, HDDs etc are all personal preferences and I'm looking for help on mainly the core power of the system.

Anyway, here's what I'm working with

I have considered upgrading to a 6 core CPU, but I'd like to know if this is really necessary and would make it easier to do things such as multi-cam etc. This stuff is really important to me. However, If I were to do this that would mean I'd need to delay getting the GPU by a few months.

1. Change the CPU to a Xeon 1231v3, it's basically an i7 with no onboard GPU and it's cheaper

2. You might want to add another 8GB stick if you have heavy use

3. Get an SSD, drop the red WD drive, if you want lots of storage consider getting 3TB+ from Seagate or WD

Thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it :)

1. I prefer having a backup GPU from the onboard GPU incase something happens and am willing to pay extra for that.

2. I already planned on added another 8GB stick, and maybe even another after that. Depends on how it goes. Media production generally requires a shit ton of RAM.

3. I don't like SSDs, because my software takes up a lot of space and they're not reliable enough for me. The black drive is for the OS, Green is for temporary downloads/work and Red is for backup.

Do you guys think I would see better performance in video editing with an ATi card or a GTX 980?

Depends on what your software use

If it ultilize OpenCL, go for AMD

if it ultilize cuda cores, go for nvidia
