Air 540 vs. Thermaltake Core X9?

Go to solution Solved by Trimak,

It just arrived...

WOW.

I loved my Air 540 but the X9 is a hand's down victory. Just slaughtered the Air 540. One of the biggest things is just the space. So many times I felt like I was cramming everything in the 540, I know i'm not going to have that here with the X9. The absolute painful trying to get your fingers or screwdriver or needle nose pliers into spaces because a cable came out or something. the X9 gives you unhindered access from both sides and the top which makes me so happy. I feel like the 540 could be a much better case if it was bigger, not as big as the X9 necessarily but the 540 felt cramped for me after you get a 360 rad and a few GPU's in there. One thing I thought stupid about the 540 was I put a bay res in there because it was a gifted XSPC RASA RX360 watercooling kit and then I had no 3.5" HDD space even...

It's huge.

It's (like they say) full modular, but when you really see it and start taking stuff off it's incredible the sense of customisability and opportunity you feel. I got goosebumps xD

I have taken some pictures and I will be posting stuff in my build log. If anyone wants to see a particular shot or angle ask me :) I'm really keen to see how the flat motherboard design looks, still not sure if it will be cool or compromise

So, I saw the new thermaltake core X9 case last week, and my eyes bugged out, but I want the forum's opinions on it. Just for fun (or in case I magically get enough money to replace my air 540 with the x9)

So, which is best? Corsair air 540, or Thermaltake Core X9?

Personally, the idea of stackable cube cases, with support for multiple quad 120 rads, is just sexy as all hell.

I can't wait to see what kind of custom builds people come up with for them.

Even if I can't afford custom right now, I might make some money and buy two of them just to use a few years down the road, in case they don't sell well for whatever insane reason.

So I take it as its some kind of Cooler master stacker case combined with the Cube design case that many manufactures have in their line ups. Hmmm, not I would jump on that. Thats some real estate.

Spoiler

Corsair 400C- Intel i7 6700- Gigabyte Gaming 6- GTX 1080 Founders Ed. - Intel 530 120GB + 2xWD 1TB + Adata 610 256GB- 16GB 2400MHz G.Skill- Evga G2 650 PSU- Corsair H110- ASUS PB278Q- Dell u2412m- Logitech G710+ - Logitech g700 - Sennheiser PC350 SE/598se

I love my AIR 540 but I would deffanatly give it up for a similar case made of higher end materials. The Core X9 seems to fit that bill.

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

You can trust me, I'm from the Internet.

I went to microcenter with the intent to buy the 540 because I liked the design,  walked away with the core x9.   The full modular design is what sold it for me.

I would be interested too. I'm not sure what case to get. The air 540 or core x9.

The 540 IS a nice case, but it needs better air filters in my opinion. Then again I smoke all day around mine so... meh.

Not too great if you want water cooling to the extreme. In order to fit my 280mm H110 in the top, in push/pull I have to have two of the 140's on the outside of the case because of clearance issues with the top heatsink on the mobo. I also like the X9 because it's horizontal, and this you don't have to worry about GPU sag, which my 970 strix is starting to experience.

My problem with the Air 540 is 3.25 harddrive space. I four and it only supports two. Plus I'm not a fan of the sideway 5.25 bays.

That is an issue. Also the openings beneath the two 3.25 mounts are kind of stupid.

I went with LIAN LI PC-O8, It's just a better built Case. I always felt thermaltake products were cheap. I wasn't going to risk it for my case. Better to pay a bit more and get a good quality case then to pay less and get some cheap plastic case.

Core X9 is 150 and the Lian Li PC-08 is 400. So it better be built well haha but yeh the X9 had a really impressive build as far as I judge it. The only things I found annoying were the screws were all super tight. I love the horizontal motherboard layout, pics in the morning :D
