Best text editor for programming?

iHammmy

Hello,

I'm looking for a new text editor that will be used for programming with Python. I have tried Notepad++ and don't really like it for Python, and I have also tried PyCharm. If anyone could link me to some others that would be great thanks.

It seems impossible until it's done.

Textpad is an option, needs a separate plugin for python but I guess it's worth trying.

I like NotePad++ mostly for PHP, HTML and other web stuff.

For programming other stuff I like Visual Studio better.

I use notepad ++ for my text editor, but why would you use a text editor when you have used pycharm (a full IDE that is free).

Pycharm has much better features than any text editor

Notepad++ is the best free one on windows, UltraEdit is better in some ways, but not free.

You can use it forever for free, you just have to look at a popup every 20 saves (iirc)

Try PyCharm, it is from the excellent JetBrains and they offer a free version of the software. Sublime is hardly the best text editor out there for every situation.

There's no such thing as a best text editor, it's based purely on preference. Personally, I use Sublime and Vim. Just try out all of the different ones for a few days each and see which one works best for you.

Don't concentrate on the best. Concentrate on writing the best code and when you outgrow your GUI based editor learn a *nix system and then choose emacs or vim.

vim and emacs might be powerful when known how to use it, but for a beginner both are just absolutely terrible.
