It's gotten to the point where even disc based games require a steam key to work. It makes sense. At first I was skeptical about the all digital PC future, but it made sense and it was also more convenient for me in the long run. I also think that this is where most software is headed too (havent seen CD based software other than OS' in a long time). Its seemingly more cost effective for distribution.

I think that Star Citizen will be the only PC game to go to bluray because of how big it will be. :obvious SC fanatic

I would say because blurays are expensive (would make game prices jump too, I think?), digital is already here (I prefer hard media but whatever), and because there hasn't been a game that needs it yet?

I actually like them in a way.

While steam, etc is much more convenient, those 5 disks allow me to download a 50gb game fast as hell.

Newer games are huge. Theyre already <40+ gb. I could see even bluray being an issue seeing how dual layered discs are 50gb. Another thing to consider is patches, some of those are bigger than the games we were getting 2-3 years ago. Digital makes the most sense in the long run.

Bluray is expensive, DVD is cheap.

How many people own even own Bluray players on the PC?

Would be more effective to put a (read only) USB stick in the box!

Yes,well, any kind of phisical distribution for PC would be good at this point.

Well, console games come on blue-ray and they cost 60$,just like new AAA releases on Steam,so I don't see why it should be different on PC.

I would like to see blu-rays also... my 700Gig steam library and 3Mbps Internet say "hi"....

Yup,same here.

what game is 50 GB?

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is 57GB.

Grand Theft Auto V has a 65GB space requirement.

I could check for more, but it isn't uncommon.

Assassins creed unity is approaching 50 and apparently Final Fantasy xiii is approaching 60gb. A lot of these file sizes are getting out of hand.

Yeah the smallest new game I saw was Far Cry 4. My install required 31gb of HDD space.

Peoples mileage may very. I personally download everything but I don't see the point in jumping to Blu ray for PC physical copies. You may use the installation media once (twice?) in the lifespan of you playing the game. Why switch to a higher cost disk, higher cost drive (can't get those cheap 15 buck ODDs anymore), and then have to offer it in DVD anyways since Blu ray isn't too common on PC. I'm usually for pushing new tech but disks as a whole seem on the way out to me.

To my understanding, the large file sizes are attributed to the lack of compression for FMV's and audio. Supposedly some pirated versions of games cut down on this and reduce file sizes considerably.

With  the amount of people who have disk drives, let alone blu ray drives in there PC's, I doubt anytime soon. Plus I think physical copies will die on the PC soon enough.
