Opinion;

Is it overpriced? Yes.

Does the dock do anything, given you'll want to be moving it around? (and if you don't, why did you buy a laptop?) No.

Is it proprietary? Yes.

Would I buy it or recommend it to absolutely anyone? Nope.

tl;dr: no. just no.

It's the thing that you would never buy for yourself. But you would be thrilled if you were given it.

I never really like alienware laptop since i think asus and msi does gaming laptop alot better. It's overpriced too bulky and heavy which is a big negative for me since i think the point of having a gaming latop is to carry with with you everywhere. Plus one of my friend has a very bad customer services experience with them so i don't think about them too highly.

I would not.  I'd go for an Aorus X5, they're about the same price with better performance.

They're nice, but overpriced and a bit 'flashy' for me.

I wouldn't buy one myself, and there's much better laptops, both in terms of performance and value.

Would never buy anything alienware. You're only paying for a brand name and 2 inch thick laptop.

The price arguement is over on Alienware laptops. The thing that will stop me from buying it is the fact that it looks like a giant brick. Looking at the AORUS, the Asus ROG laptops and the MSI gaming, those look infinitely better than the Alienware flashly lights.

oh and the base model of the 15 inch model it's quite ok. 1080 ips display+965m you'll be fine. Don't bitch around the i5, you'll be fine with that unless you use specific programs that use more cores and threads.

Overly priced

Can buy the gt80 for the price of an alienware gtx960m laptop

Meaning

Alienware laptps are usually 1 third the perfomance for the price you pay

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

A lot of people in this thread seem to know nothing about Alienware and just shout out "Overpriced!" when I don't really think that's the case. I'm going to give you my opinion as someone who as owned Alienware laptops, Razer laptops, and Aorus laptops. Hopefully this will give you some insight into your purchasing decision more than people just saying that their laptops are overpriced.

Looking at the Alienware 15 on the US Alienware site, the price is listed at $1,449.99 USD with an i7, 4710HQ, GTX 970M, 8GB RAM, 1080p IPS display, and 1tb HDD. I would consider that to be a pretty reasonable price. You can also always call Alienware to order your laptop and haggle them on the price a little. In regards to the graphics amplifier, it's a cool looking idea, but it seems to be a little pricey. The nice thing is that you can upgrade the graphics performance of your laptop down the road when newer, more demanding games come out. This will allow you to keep your laptop for longer, which is always nice.

The 970M is a really good laptop graphics card. Check out here to read up on it and scroll down to see some video game benchmarks that have been done.

I had to deal with customer service with one of my Alienware laptops, and their support was really helpful when trying to get it fixed. They allow you to open up your laptop to look around (or change parts) without voiding your warranty, and they sent me a box to send out my laptop. I got it back within a couple days.

Other systems such as the Razer Blade 14 and the Aorus X3 are well in the over $2,000 range. This is because they are much more portable machines than the Alienware, but they will get similar performance since both laptops come equipped with the 970M graphics card.

I believe the Sager laptop does not come with the Nvidia Optimus technology, so you will not get very good battery life with that system.

Someone mentioned the MSI GT60 for a laptop. That is a good choice as well. It all really depends what you prefer for a system. They both weigh around the same amount and cost the same, so it basically comes down to preference of brand. I think either is a good choice, so it's really up to you.
