Oneplus releases an Alpha for it's bloat-free, Cyanogen independent Lollipop rom.

Recently, we asked you to name our ROM. We’re beyond excited about the response and the sheer number of entries we’ve received. With so many of you on board, we know that we are well on our way to creating the next great ROM in the Android community.

Now, it’s our turn. It’s time we show you just a little bit of what we’ve been working on. This is the first step in what will become our own custom ROM. It’s so early, in fact, that this build contains no extras beyond the stock features of AOSP Lollipop. It’s the base that we will continue to build upon, improve, and customize as we stabilize core functionalities on the latest firmware updates.

As we look towards the official ROM release in the near future, we will keep to our promise and deliver an experience that is customizable, yet bloat-free with stock-Android-like simplicity by default; we wouldn’t ask you to settle for anything less. In the meantime, we thought you’d appreciate an early community preview and a progress report.

Known issues

Data roaming is on by default. Make sure to turn if off to avoid potential charges.

As always, flashing a custom ROM incurs the risk of bricking your phone. Make sure you know what you’re doing and backup everything.

Camera and video may be unstable. This build supports 4k video, however quality may be low as we are still fine-tuning the camera.

Capacitive keys do not turn off when you enable software keys.

Clock crashes periodically.

If using the new app pinning feature in L, make sure to turn on the software keys first. Otherwise, you will have to reboot your machine.

On first boot, startup time will be a bit slow. Rest assured we will speed things up in the future.

As someone that got the Oneplus One this Christmas, I'm excited to know I can soon step away from cyanogen. I know Linus doesn't like Oneplus as a company much, but I think they've redeemed themselves as of lately. Feel free to try out the lollipop ROM. However, it is an alpha and bugs are expected.

Note: Editing once I hop on the desktop

My only issue with OnePlus is that they had that really stupid "smash the past" campaign and they don't do any RMAs, at all.

They still do RMAs. Its just a really slow process that can take anywhere from 2 weeks, to 2 months. Customer services is a nightmare.

Thanks to XDA my S4 is currently on a stable 5.0.1 :) works like a dream. Few hiccups here and there but I will sort them.

Does the 1+1 have adequate recovery software to do a full backup and flash from stock? If they are basically asking you to void your warranty to try it. Also the fact is that ROM is Cyanogen based and always will be, almost every custom rom out there is cyanogen based because its the best.

Well, afaik rooting, flashing a custom rom/recovery do not void the warranty. That is for the Oneplus though and not for other companies, especially Samsung with knox :/

There is currently on a tutorial for restoring to stock by using a script. You can find it on the OPO forums, but most people would make a backup through CM recovery or teamwin prior to flashing. Oneplus does not void your warranty as they encourage rooting/ custom roms.

My gripe with cyanogen is more about the company. They tore up that contract and basically dropped support for a whole consumer base just like that over email. Can't blame them for making a business decision, but c'mon.

Yeah it was a pretty rough decision but I guess it would make them more money and they are a business so... I wish Samsung would take this route with encouraging custom ROMS :D

it wasnt a rough decision it was stupid and they realised it a bit to late. cyanogen lost a lot of their fans and pretty much showed how bad they do business to all other companies. and guys like samsung will never do that,i mean it would be stupid. take the note 4 for instance, if you flash cyanogenmod on it you pretty much lose half of the phones functions. i only recommend cyanogenmod for older phones, like the s3.

it will only ever be for the oneplus, I suggest you look on XDA Devs forum for a ROM for your phone.

Yeah it was this is why devs of a ROM should never go public with a company. Not worth it.

The whole reason I bought a OnePlus was because of it's low price and the fact that it came with Cyanogen as it's default OS, I am not too sure about using a custom OS if it isn't backed by Cyanogen, so I'll sit this one out until it is fully released and reviews have been floating around the internet.

Smart. I'll make a backup then dive in headfirst later on. I just hope battery life is acceptable.

Tried flashing just now. Gapps crashes and WIFI is not working. I suggest you backup before flashing and wait for the next alpha build.
