About to drop $2k, could use some feedback!

CostcoSamples

I'm looking for a laptop for general use that is gaming capable.  I want something powerful that will last a long time.  max budget is $2,000. Ideally I'd like a GTX 970 or 980 gpu, IPS or similar lcd panel, and don't care much about the rest other than good build quality and not super loud.  prefer 17", but 15" is ok too.

The only laptop I could find that matches that description is the Asus G751 laptop, which is massive.  I don't mind the size, since it will mostly be used at home, and only occasionally taken out of the house.

Is there anything else out there that might be comparable and/or a better value?

thanks!

How often do you take it with you outside the house?

The g751 is very good at what it does, I doubt you'll find anything better for that price. I wouldn't go above it unless you can afford a razer blade 2014 (which is admittedly a bit TOO expensive)

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

yes, I looked at those MSI laptops.  Don't they use a TN panel?

When you posted the title to mobile gaming I thought you were about to spend 2k on candy crush or something.

The Razer Blade is a lot thinner, basically a blacked out Apple MacBook.

Unfortunately, the RAM is soldered on in that model, at 8GB too. It's a great laptop otherwise, however.

Eric S. Raymond used an E6600 from 2005 until 12/30/14 or open source software creation. Raw data computations in excess of 18GB each. Core 2 Duos still have tons of life left, my friend.

I really like the Razer Blade and the Alienware 15/17 laptops, but there probably are better options.
