Budget Computer Build

megamawman

Hey guys!

I am new to the LinusTechTips community although I have been watching his videos for a long time now. I am upgrading from my a10-5750m + radeon 8750m laptop to a gaming pc although I am trying to keep the price under $850 (not including tax). I would love to hear what you guys think about it. I am buying a R( 280x later. This is going to be used for heavy 3d rendering. Here it is:

Can you get cheaper ram than the G.skill? If so, get it. Besides that, things are looking good.

EDIT: WHERE'S THE GPU?!?!?!?

EDIT 2: Scratch the build and make a new one.

EDIT 3: This build gives you twice as much memory and storage for 50$ more. You can cut off 10$ if you buy this PSU instead: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/thermaltake-power-supply-sp650pcbus

GPU?

Also note that if you're only gaming then fewer cores is better, an i5 might be an idea or even an fx6300 6-core processor. The 8350 will never use all of its cores in a videogame, I know mine never has.

Note a 60Hz monitor will lock you at 60fps, you won't receive higher frames so a change in that should be noted if it bothers you.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am buying a R9 280x later on. I also forgot to mention that this is going to be used for heavy 3D rending and photoshop use (I am a game designer).

I would recommend an Intel CPU then for the harder tasks; the FX 8350 is on an older architecture, remember.

Please don't hurt me I'm innocent and have a family.

Should I go with the I5 4690k or do you suggest something else? I think the i7s would be out of my price range.

For the rendering, the i7 would help you there, but nothing to cry yourself to sleep over every night.  An i5 4XXX series will suffice.

Total: $317.97

I would still go team red if i were OP. The 8350 does better in photoshop than a similarly priced i5 4xxx cpu.

Point made.  But what about rendering and overall gaming/game design?

I'm not trying to be a fanboy here, just trying to come up to a solution.

You're going to need a graphics card to run the system--the current list doesn't have any integrated graphics.

This belongs in the New Builds and Planning section. I'm moving the thread.

Please Please post in the correct sub-forum in the future--do not just dump threads into General Discussion.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/
Also, make sure to quote a post or tag a member when replying or else they won't get a notification that you replied to them.
