Can anyone help me pick parts for a PC?

Hi,
I want to buy a PC and move on from my console. I'm not looking for much, just something where I can run the newest games at 60fps with medium graphics and mods. I was planning to buy an Alienware Alpha
( http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-alpha/pd ) , but apparently they are overpriced. Can anyone give me suggestions for building one? Maybe what parts to pick, or suggest a specific build? A ready built one would be best, but I can try building one too if that's better for the kind of PC I want.

Thanks.  :)

I live in the UK, by the way, in case that makes a difference.

Do you have a monitor or TV to use already? What screen resolution do you want to play at? Do you have a budget?

If possible I would wait until you can afford to spend about £500 and get something similar to what theloveablemoose suggested. For £300 you're looking at a worse experience than a console.

Also, which network card would you recommed, since I haven't seen any in the builds I've been sent.
