Dell Ultrasharp U2415 Question

Poohy14
Go to solution Solved by ForsakenLive,

It's not OLED, it's a LG AH-IPS panel with Dell branding.

Well, I decided to look at monitors again since I have a old 5 year monitor dying now and I have one that I bought last year Christmas and now I might pick up the Dell Ultrasharp U2415 2 replace the old monitor. I was looking at it on Amazon and the monitor said it was OLED, now when I go to Dell's website its dosen't say anything about it. Now I just want to know if the monitor is OLED or not since I was looking at Dell's Ultrasharp U2414H monitors and they were already close to $300 USD so I wanted to pick up a OLED one for the same price. Like I said, just want to know if its OLED or not don't know if I am missing something or over looking it.

Well that sucks then, wonder why Amazon was saying it was OLED then. Oh well, time to move on a great adventure of a new monitor

Sometimes Amazon gets products a bit mixed up, they just have too many.

I vouch for the U2414H.

Yeah been looking for monitors with Display Port since most graphics cards have them now and don't feel like buying adapters, Also been looking for something close to 5ms GTG since I still play shooters yet, But will have to look into this a little more.

Yeah been looking for monitors with Display Port since most graphics cards have them now and don't feel like buying adapters, Also been looking for something close to 5ms GTG since I still play shooters yet, But will have to look into this a little more.

GTG is not a measurement of delay, it's the time it takes for a pixel to go from grey to a color, to grey again; but that's once the controller has already sent the order for those pixels to turn.

Input lag on the other hand is the time it takes for the monitor to actually end up telling the pixels to actuate since the GPU has already send the frame through the cable.

Not only GTG is not all correct (as the best way to measure pixel times is using BTB, black to black), but it's there as a way to advertise the capabilities of the panel itself. A big GTG latency (usually over 12ms) will make parts of the picture blurry as the color is not completely set on certain areas, creating this weird confusing effect, often misnamed motion blur.

Input lag is not advertised on the tech specs and can only be measured with very accurate special equipment (high sensibility cameras).

That part of the Dell family of monitors (for example, the U2414H) are one of the fastest monitors regarding input lag. The U2414H has virtually no signal processing delay, defeating even 1ms 'fast' TN panels; being one of the best monitors for 60hz gaming. So those 8ms don't really mean anything.

something something.....

Ohhhh, did not know this, never got into monitors and I always preferred IPS over TN for better colors but now I know this. Thanks for this information that I will have to learn. Also, I seen Wendell's IPS vs TN video and didnt know why IPS was updating faster by 1 frame but know I know why. Now I know I will buy 1 or even 2 of these monitors to replace my old LCD HANNspree HF225 monitors that are just too old and dying.Once again thanks for this info on the monitors.

Forgot about that TekSyndicate video; it's another example of why GTG is not all there is to it.

Still you will find a ton of slow IPS displays; Linus had a video demo about monitors delays while ago; and his monitor was a little bit over 23ms of delay (compared to the CRT, which has no delay), that was slow as hell (even some TVs can do better in Game-Mode). It's all about finding good reviews  and trying to understand the correct terminology. There is a ton of Snake oil and misinformation regarding monitors, displays, etc.

There are some poster children, like a small part of Dell's line-up which includes the U2414H, that while being IPS or VA, and featuring 7-8 or even 10ms GTG, are still incredibly fast; only to be defeated by some of the good 120hz/144hz high end monitors.

Wish there was more videos that tested different monitors to put things to the test on latency but sadly there isn't.

Totally agree, unfortunately to do so you need very expensive equipment, more time than any GPU/system benchmark could need, a ton of room (there will be tripods, lightning, cameras, several monitors connected to several PCs, capture PCs, cables everywhere, boxes, storage needs, and a lot more), contact with many companies that will need to agree to ship you stuff directly from Asia, advance software, calibration equipment, big investment and finally knowledge.

Not everybody wants to see complicated monitor stuff, most of the times they get recommended a good monitor by someone they can trust and had a good experience, buy the monitor, enjoy and recommend to another person. So you can imagine your view count won't be that big compared to all the work you have to do.

Yeah thats the sad part but some myths do have to be busted and the best why is a video form Linus or Logan/Wendell or some other big YT.
