Define R5 Fan Placement for + Air Pressure

Hey guys. I plan to get my hands on a Define R5 asap. I want the best airflow, but I want to keep it at a positive air pressure, to keep it clean as possible (office is carpet, and my dog sheds like a silly bitch). I have a H80i with x2 Noctua's, which I plan to mount in push/pull in the back 120mm fan mount, and I have 3 Noctua NF-P12s sitting beside my computer. Where should I place those, as well as maybe a few of the fans that come with the case, for the best airflow, with a positive pressure.

I have the R4 and so far I swapped the rear fan to the front and have 2 filtered intakes, closed off the rear with one of the fan blanks and it's been relatively dust free (as long as you clean the filter) using an H100 at the top.

 

So, two fans intake, two exhaust.

Like I said though, my rear intake will be used an exhaust for an H80i.

Usually have the rear and top running as exhaust as well, see if you can get some fan speed reducers for the top exhaust fans and you should be good to go.

Yes, that's what you would want. The fan speed reducers should balance out the amount of intake/exhaust, so you can use all of the fans. I believe Noctuas come with some.

They each come with an extension cable, Y-Cable (splitter) and a low noise adapter. And I presume the low noise adapter just drops the RPMs.

Lowering the fan speed will lower the exhaust pressure as well,so you can use more fans and keep the airflow balanced or have more intake airflow, for positive pressure.

Will I run any hotter if i keep positive pressure?

I've got a pretty similar configuration to yours, haven't had any issues with heat and I'm running all the fans at 5v. Only major difference is your CPU cooler and the GPU. You can run a stress test on both to make sure they stay within your comfort zone, but I'm sure they'll be fine. I would use the ULNA adapter first and if it runs too warm switch to the LNAs.

I'm not worried at all about my CPU, but in the summer I'm worried about my GPU getting a little hot. I'm almost considering getting an aftermarket cooler for it.

The cooler on your GPU should be fine, if it's not overheating now, it should be fine in the R5, it's a great case.

Yeah. Now I'm totally fine, but I don't have AC, and with 2 computers, in the summer my office can get really hot, so my rig runs really hot.

If you need the extra cooling, you could hook up the case fans to the built in fan controller and pump it up when you're gaming/doing something hardware intensive.

That's a good idea. But for the mean time I might throw one of the Noctua's on the top as exhaust, and use the low noise adapter, then throw the other 2 in the front without the adapter as intake.

The way I have mine set up it two 140s in the front (intake)  and one 140 in the back (exhaust) , The stock fans which come with the R5 are bloody brilliant tho so won't need to replace them.
