HELP ME finding a mechanical keyboard for my mom

MeepLikesToBuildPc's

So yeah.

My mom is a heavy typer and this year she got through 2 top of the line membrane keyboards so she is letting me choose a good kb for her.

So obviously she is needing a mech keyboard and seeing she is a typer im going to get her mx blues seeing "she wants the clicky and sturdy sound what she was used to" (she had a IBM model M) and hates the squishy membrane.

BUT

The frame (prefferably the whole thing) needs to be aluminium or white. The keys can be black.

And price can be at a max of 120€

she needs a numpad too.

Anybody help? I was thinking rosewill rk9000i but it is sold out everywhere :(

My Main Build: NZXT S340 - NZXT Kraken X31 - Crucial MX100 256GB - i5 4460 - Gigabyte Z97P D3 - Kingston HyperX Red 8GB - MSI Nvidia GTX 780 3GB - Corsair LL & HD RGB Fans, Corsair Lighting Node Pro.

(inb4 blind corsair pimping)

QPAD MK-50

No frills, cheap and of high quality with all Cherry MX switches and numpad. (can be had with a variety of switch types)

The wrist rest is removable easily if desired, but I kept mine on and after 2 years of heavy use I've had no problems.

Check your local ebay for an IBM Model M

This. They aren't hard to find.

Finding anything but black keyboards nowadays is a bit of a challenge. What about this (over budget here in the USA) http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=954

EDIT: Or this

If I were in the market for a full-sized keyboard, then I would have likely gone with the Ducky Legend. :c

Using a 60% right now. Because it's how you use it, not how big it is.

(Tho, number pads are awesome to have sometimes)

Hey @MeepLikesToBuildPc's I'll throw in another €30 if you guys need it.

Both me and my friend had a Qpad keyboard, (the one with red switches) and both of our lights died on it after about 6 months :o

They have a warranty did you RMA them?

Why did you decide on blues though?

As a medium but not very heavy typer, i can say that blues and reds have COMPLETELY wrecked

my fingers, as i continuously slam them into the bottom, there is hardly any resistance at all. So

practically all the force goes to a sudden halt at the bottom of the key, like tapping at a wooden

plate all day.

Now that is just my experience, and i haven't tried heavier switches over an extended period of

time yet.

DO NOT GET THE ROSEWILL. Its a rebranded filco,  but it sucks. I have two dead rosewills in my house, very bad soldering and the micro USB connector usually gets loose. For maximum durability get a keyboard without a removable USB cable.

Some brands I recommend from personal experience:

Steelseries

Filco

Cherry

Das

CoolerMaster (Styling abit meh, but solid keyboard)

Leopold (My friend has a nice one for years and its still running, never used one myself. Removable USB, a risk but worth trying.)

Ask her to choose herself. I recommend filco because of its design, but thats subjective. All of those listed keyboards won't let you down.

As for key switches, blues are fine but noisy. Blues and reds are light, I type the fastest on these. Blacks and greens are heavier but worth considering. Greens are awesome. Brown just feel like a membrane keyboard, I would recommend avoiding.

I would ditch the idea of anything aluminum in that price range, and white keyboards are really anoying to deal with because scratches and dirt show all over them. If you know whats good for you just take that money and buy a solid Filco, its solid, professional, and reliable.
