Missing 5 years of gmail emails.

Rettiekadettie

So,today i logged in to my gmail account to check my mail, only to find out i'm missing 5 years worth of emails.

They just disappeared, because there's allot of valuable information lost, either from my work,or private,i filled out a form on their help service, just to get a automatic generated email that everything was lost and they couldn't do anything for me.

Is this a know problem?

Or did anyone else had this problem? and if so,was there anything they could do?

Thanks in advance.

Thats a pain in the arse. I'd recommend checking your security settings as well by the way - maybe you can prevent this happening again. I'd also try call the Gmail team.

Nothing we can help you with. If google says they can't recover them then you are sol. I would suggest using a program to receive and archive emails if they are that important to you.

Yeah, this is accurate. I'd recommend something like Thunderbird from Mozilla.

I checked my activities, there weren't any logs on my mail account except by me,so i don't think i was hacked or something.

But then again,i don't know if that would leave any trace in my activity log.

I still have a copy of the most important files,But for some of them,i don't.

i will contact gmail,i was just wondering any one else experienced this issue.

This happened to some people before in the past, and it seems they lost everything.

Wow, that is scary! Hopefully there is a way for them to restore some of the files attached to the emails at the very least.

Kinda happy I forward all my emails through my own server to my Gmail account nowadays; Even though it's a hassle having two copies of every email—at least they are safe(er).

Cheers,

Linus

You have just reminded me i have 8,000 emails i need to backup from gmail. I have had some bad things happen with just relying on gmail. i reccomend using thunderbird or microsoft outlook there are tolls on both of these that allow you to encrypted and password protect your emails as well as compress then (youll fing emails start eating you GB`s) and many many more tools to help you with your emails.

I  have GameServer`s And VOIP servers the only price is that you have fun on them.

I know,it kinda worries me this happens,i always assumed your emails where save in your inbox.

I know i shouldn't assume things, but this never happened in all the time i'm using gmail, and thats a long time,so i was kinda lazy by copying all my emails, assuming this wouldn't happen.

Luckily i downloaded most PDF files,to bad i lost some photo's and other PDF files i didn't download,or that i lost because i did a new OS install.

This is a great lesson, and a great reason to buy a NAS and store my stuff there.

Get an Outlook.com email (old hotmail). I used to be with gmail, and in all honesty, it's probably the BEST email service I have ever used.
