Dell UltraSharp 34 Curved Monitor – U3415W

I was searching for the LG 34UC97 when I found this Dell that's supposed to be released this month or early 2015. It looks like it will be priced around the same level as the LG, most of the important specs seem the same. The Dell does have the vesa built in, where the LG you would have to call in and order for free.

Not sure of how many of you guys are 21:9 lovers, but I am  :)

Not completely sure if this is allowed or not, and I haven't seen anyone post a drop for this before either.

I tried starting a MassDrop thing here dro.ps/v/JThLWDC

Product page for LG ~ $1,299: http://www.lg.com/us...trawide-monitor

Product page for Dell ~ $1,250: http://accessories.a...d1&sku=210-AEBV

Great monitors for productivity and even entertainment as seen on LTT. Hopefully the Dell gets reviewed when its available because it has features that the LG lacked.

They both feature:

21:9 aspect ratio  with 3440x1447 resolution at 60hz

sRGB color gamut of 99%

IPS panel ~ 5ms GTG

Please use auto for text colour. That is very difficult for dark theme users to read.

If only we could get 21:10 for productivity :(

Dude.. that'd be.. ohmygod.  I kind of want a 4720 x 2160.  That'd pretty much be 4k at 21:9 or 21:10.  It's 880 more over 3840, so that would be like the transition of 2560 to 3440, but ugh.. 21:10 sounds crazy awesome  *_*

The thing that is great when it comes to the Dell as compared to the LG - it's a Dell stand.  We should have all adjustments except for portrait, because 21:9 portrait would just be--...actually, that'd be interesting.

Maybe dark themers should take a hint and stop using the dark theme since it's only for vampires, goths, and other social rejects. :P

What can I do? up here in the north it gets dark at 4:30PM and gets light at 8:30AM. Do you expect me to use natural light or get a headache by fluorescence at school

My OS is black skinned, my browsers are black skinned, most websites that I actually frequent I either use other people's stylish profiles to turn all the white to black or write my own.

Backlights are not to my taste.

I am the night..

I use the white theme, and it's 1:03 AM here.

Well I don't like torture but if you like to use it during dark times then ok.

You become a computer scientist trying to debug very complex code without having multiple code panes open adjacent to each other to step through the process while also seeing the system as a whole. I'd like my cinematic monitor that can do it all :P

Lol the beauty of 21:9 is that it can. In 21:9 you can have an IDE on half the monitor, basically making it 5:4 and the webpage you're designing on the other half, atleast that's what I do. And even in your scenario, making the screen taller, and less wide would limit the amount of windows you could have open adjacent to each other. 21:10 would make all that worse.

Taller, just as wide. 1920x1200 is just taller than 1920x1080.

Furthermore, webpages are lightweight development. Heterogeneous and networking are much harder and will demand much more room to look at the interacting code.

I'm sorry, I'm quite new around here so I didn't know.

I typed the whole thing in default so I don't understand why it wouldn't be on auto though.

Yes you are correct, but I wanted to open a discussion on curved 21:9 monitors in general. Such as more news of other companies making these monitors. More monitors like these are soon to come and hopefully with a more justifiable cost . Another reason I posted was to see which monitor everyone preferred..I couldn't find the search button either lol.

It only happens because of copy/paste. The thing you copy/paste and anything you type after that will be black text rather than auto.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

The only things I copied and pasted were the links, so that's probably why :P

Makes sense, but I didn't know about dark users either lol.

If you want to open a discussion about 21:9 curve monitor, you can start a thread in the "Displays" subforum under "Comouter Hardware", not by posting in the Tech News section about a monitor that had been posted several times. Others could report yr post as repost and mod/admin can locked yr post.

And the search function is broken on this site, you can use Google Search instead, like search yr keyword with "linustechtips.com". That would work.

OKAY, so this is IPS or TN. Doesn't say shit on the website. WTF?

Weird, I found this on the website:

Panel Type, Surface:
In-plane switching, anti glare with hard coat 3H

Oh and the OP also put it in the first post on this thread.

Exactly, it doesn't say "IPS". Get the joke?
