loud cpu fan all the time. no high temps.

SevereDevil

so one of my co-workers showed me his "gaming" pc and it made me laugh but i still want to help him with the loud cpu fan. its a dell optiplex 745 with a geforce 630. pc is completely stock(only $200) and he bought a geforce 630 just to play black ops and few other games without lag. however as soon as he installed the gpu the cpu fan is 100%rpm constantly from startup to shutdown. ive tried speedfan and a few other programs people say work but none seem to work. the cpu has a 4pin connector. any way to adjust the fan speed?

Ultra at 1080p, that's all that matters.

More cpu utilization=cpu get hotter=fans will spin faster=loud

a 15-30$ cooler will fix it.

How is there more CPU utilization by installing a GPU? And the problem isn't CPU utilization, because the CPU fan is at 100% all the time, even at idle.

There may be a setting in the BIOS that he tampered with, something like adaptive/smart fan control may have been disabled. On an Acer of mine disabling smart fan control would run all system fans at 100% all the time.

Haven´t read the part "constantly from startup to shutdown"

OH. He needs to install the graphicscards drivers.

Ok misread the 2nd time(haha). So Cpu?

Hmm I have no idea. Maybe he needs to remove dust from the heatsink.

Again neither of these things has to do with the CPU fan running at 100% all the time. This is because his motherboard is keeping the fans at 100% all the time, likely due to some settings in the BIOS that disabled PWM controlling of the fans.

Ok what problem do you have... I edited it "I have no idea".

Don´t stress me if I try to give some advice.

Not trying to stress you, just saying that dust isn't a factor. Maybe if someone asks this question later on, then you'll have the knowledge to answer it

thanks for the quick replies. at first i assumed the gpu driver because my 290x was loud as F*ck when first hooked up before drivers installed but when i opened his tower door i noticed his tiny gpu could not be that loud. further inspection showed it to be the cpu fan. fan and heatsink are clean as the pc is new. used only 1 week before gpu. i found no possible settings in bios and i know my co-worker did not alter any settings in bios as he only knows how to turn on his pc and double click games. i spent a hr cleaning his pc of spam and crap he nvr heard of.
