Cat 2 4mbits or 100mbits

so @ says that a cat 2 cable can carry 100mbits but google says they can only carry 4mbits so who is right

It seems like it can only carry 4mbps, but I guess he thinks that most applications of Cat2 would be banding 25 connections together?

 

Otherwise he thinks that Cat2 is Cat5 and he thinks that that Cat5 is only capable of up to 100mbit/s...

CAT 2 cable is very low I believe <10Mb/s it's basically what was used as telephone wire back in the day, theses days most people use CAT5e cable for phone lines to ethernet connectivity due to it's versatility and low cost making it easy to convert between them if need be.

According to wikipedia cat2 cables are used for 4mbit networks.Cat5 is for 100mbit connection.Cat5e is for gigabit connection.

Btw the hardware(HDD and stuff) slows down their speed so its fairly impossible to see a connection communicating at full speed(according to my knowledge)(Talking for  >100mbit connections) .

If you read this wiki page http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Very-high-bit-rate_digital_subscriber_line_2

you will see that using vdsl2 you can get 200mbps.

Also, it seems that with newer DSL technology you can get 1gbps:
