HELP! One standoff hole isn't aligned

Go to solution Solved by Peter Vaughan Truslow,

 not quoting picture because reasons

it's probably a case of the IO shield applying force on the motherboard.

verify that the IO shield is snapped all the way into place

install the motherboard, but don't tighten the screws all the way

press the motherboard firmly, but not too forcibly towards the IO shield, as the IO sheild is usually spring-loaded

if the screw lines up, put it in. if it does not, don't worry about it. it won't be a real problem if it's close.

had the very same issue on my most recent HTPC build for my parents.

edit: I love how everyone thought to not quote the massive picture. yay people think.

I'm building my PC as we speak. I have the MSI Z97 GUARD PRO and the 300R. I am screwing in the stand-offs and everything is fine, but the standoff hole above the RAM slots isn't aligned with the standoff on the case. What do I do? I tried refitting everything, but it doesnt look like my fault because the middle post is aligned and in the hole so everything must be aligned. All the standoffs are aligned but that one. Any Ideas? Should I push the motherboard to align it so I can screw it? It sounds risky so I'm asking you guys.

1) Don't push the motherboard. Just don't do it.

2) Just leave it as it is. My PC has a missing standoff below the RAM slots and it works just fine.

If you line up the motherboard by eye over the holes, do all holes line up?

And if it's just one stand-off, then nothing will break if you don't use it.

~snip~

I'm going to guess that all the other holes line up as they should.

You're fine with using just the holes that you have available.

How far is it off? If its off slightly then loosen all of your other motherboard screws and install the screw(if it doesn't fit at this point then there is something wrong). If its off by a lot then RMA the case(The 300R is built poorly IMO, but I still love mine). You can just leave this one missing, but you will have grounding issues.

Edit: From looking at the picture, just push your motherboard towards the rear of the case. The I/O shield is pushing your motherboard forward, and you just need to push it back.

Personally i would force it.

But it does not hurt to skip a standoff, And since it is just over the ram it should not hurt too much since it wont be any real strain there.

Thank you all! Since most of you said press the mobo firmly to the rear, it perfectly lined up, took a few trys because it's hard to use only 2 hands, but it works. Thank you guys!
