[Hackintosh] Asus X99 vs Gigabyte X99

HiDEF

I was wondering what would be the better motherboard to go with if I plan to Dual boot Os's.

I'm looking into the Asus Deluxe X99 or the Gigabyte UD4. Both have their fair share of criticism so it makes it difficult to choose the right one for compatibility.

I have been over to Tonymacx86 and RampageDev but still can't get a clear picture of which is best.

Would love to hear from some of you who have either board or have experience with hackintoshes.

And please, feel free to suggest other models from either company.

I do want to add that I have a Fractal Define R4 case so, I know my choices are limited :(

I have read somewhere that the x99 platform had issues with hackintoshing...not sure if it is still true.

But the question that I am curious is why x99?

I get this a lot and my only response is that it's the latest chipset..

Should I Look into the x79 w 4930K instead?

Yea I understand why people would want the x99 platform, heck even I want it because its the latest and greatest but kind of work do you exactly do that requires the x79 or x99 platform?

Also I don't recommend the x79 platform unless you get it for dirt cheap because that platform is practically dead.

I'd like Yosemeti to be my DD and use windows for video editing with Premiere pro along with other Adobe products (CC 2014).

I also plan on gaming a little.

Well how often do you actually edit video with Premiere Pro?

What is your budget...as jumping to x99 cost a good chunk of money, with the cheapest x99 board being 200, the cheapest 2011-3 CPU (5820K) being 400ish, and the expensive DDR4 memory...

If I can, I might recommend you to buy the z97 platform as it is known for z97 to be fully capable for hackintoshing.

Forgive my lack of knowledge but how much older is the z97 chipset from the x99? And which i7 6 core chip do you recommend?

not really older. Get the cheapest 6 core, you can save the 200$+ for the ddr4 ram

Oh no, the x99 chipset with 2011-3 cpu´s have ddr4 support.

I think z97 has only ddr3

lol, I should have known this.

Anyways, this has become frustrating. Every time I feel I have made a decision, I get pulled a different direction (sucks).

I want power in my build; like I mentioned earlier, I will be using it with Adobe products and some gaming.

From what I've read, Tonymac and Rampage point to  x79 and the latest x99 chipset being the most powerful single cpu available. So I guess that's why I was going towards that direction. My budget is around $1500.

Video editing will be 50% of my productivity. I'm looking at a $1500 budget.

I know it´s difficult, I have to build a new pc for my buddy too and I can´t decide what to get...

The 6core with the x99 plattform is the cheapest, but mainboards and ram are expensive, but the cpu is cheaper than other plattforms.

I guess it´s worth it to get the latest technology and pay 5-10% more. DDR4, x99 chipset...

But it´s up to you :D #plzhaaalpmedecide

The z97 is the current chipset for the consumer/prosumer based and the x99 is the current enthusiast chipset. Although z97 does not support DDR4, or hexa-core, it is an guarantee platform that will work with your hackintoshing idea.

But if you really need that extra cores. Get the 5820K, but there is no guarantee that everything will work in the hackintosh system, you will have to spend sometime troubleshooting and tinkering with the kext to get it to work some-what properly..

I wouldn't take my chances with a MSI board for a hackintosh system...I haven't seen any solid evidence it will work, but I have from personal experience that Gigabyte and Asus board works...and personally I think I would trust Gigabyte more...

4790K, but you sitll have to keep in mind, both  chipset requires time to tinker with to get a hackintosh working, just one is more difficult then the other..

Which Gigabyte motherboard would you recommend for the 4790K?
