Another 780ti, a 980 or wait?

I got myself a new Monitor, the LG with 3440x1440 resolution. I currently have a 780ti wich drives it ok, but i was wondering what the best upgrade path is. Do i get another 780ti for SLI, or should i get a 980 (more vram for the higher resolution), or just wait on the next round of graphics cards. How important is having more than 3gb vram for my resolution?

If it drives it OK right now, I'd recommend waiting til amd releases their 3xx series to see what happens, by then the 780 ti will be cheaper probably and you can buy a second one, or get a 390x if it's really good.

If you're impatient and just want to spend money now, just get another 780 ti.

The 980 is too close in performance to the 780 to justify the cost. (In my opinion)

I would wait till something like a 980ti or titan 2 comes out. Hopefully it isn't priced as high as the titan...

Or maybe AMDs next flagship is powerful enough to beat the 980.

How close to the 3GB limit are you sailing? If you're way off then it's worth getting another 780 Ti if you can get one at a decent price. If you're close then you don't want to go that route. It's not worth upgrading until you're having framerate issues though.

Isn't the 780 ti actually better than the 980? It's very close, but the 780 ti is only let down by its lack of vram making it useless for high resolutions, which imo is the whole reason you'd want one.

Better wait. As said, the new AMD is coming and it might drive prices of NVidia down. Letting you either get 2nd GTX 780Ti or, get yourself GTX 980, maybe even 2 of them.

Or wait for GTX 1000 series or 970TI/980Ti

Seeing as AMD is releasing it after the 980 has been released, I see no reason it shouldn't be more powerful, especially since it's apparently going to have stacked VRAM?

Doesn't always mean it will be more powerful just because it's released afterwards. It's very well possible that even with stacked VRAM, it still won't be powerful enough to make it better option.

Or even if it is more powerful, it still might have too much heat output/power consumption in comparison.

In my experience, my 290x lightning gets awful close to 980 performance, so if the 390x is even a small bit better it should be reallly close if not better

(Did some benchmarking with it vs my new 970 g1, and with them both OC'd to as far as I could, the lightning pulled ahead by ~5% at 1440p)

But it also has twice the TDP :/

I hope so. I'm a huge fan of a good competition and it's really sad, that you see only nvidia cards at the top of the charts

In my experience over the last few years, usually the person with the most recent product line ends up on top, but once AMD releases their new lineup, Nvidia won't be far from a new update as well.

Price is important too. The 290X was more powerful than the 780, but it cost like £100 more. And the 780 ti's price at the time was ridiculous.

yeah that too. It might not be cost-efficient.

Get another ti. Even with selling you card and getting a 980 it won't be worth it. Some cheap deals going in right now for some 780's. If your board and cpu are up to the task I would sli.

The 980 is usually slightly more powerful than the 780 Ti. It wasn't really made for pure power though, it was mostly for efficiency and temps.
