What's the best mining rig today? If I bought it would I make any money?

I know that there is a lot of data on making money with crypto-currency but I just want to cut the crap and ask if I could make money doing it.  It seems like it's a simple equation that an experienced miner could answer for me just knowing the best/most efficient rig and electrical costs.

What's the best mining right you can buy today?

If I bought such a rig could I make any money mining bitcoin with my electrical rates at $.0914 per kWh?

For Bitcoin and SHA-256 your best best would likely be a Bitmain Antminer https://bitmaintech.com/product.htm

I believe the S4 is currently their most efficient miner.

Mining isn't something you do for profit, it's more of an enthusiast hobby; It's a zero sum game where the money spent on miners has the ability to cover it's own cost before it becomes obsolete. Unless you're buying the top of the line hardware near it's launch, chances of making back your investment can be very slim. You should hopefully will be able to mine an equivalent value to your initial costs, but don't expect it to be more. Manufacturers price mining hardware ensuring slim margins to maximize their profits. The margins are just large enough to entice people into believing they can earn large profits in a short time. I go the route of purchasing bitcoin directly from exchanges rather than mining equipment.

While the difficulty has currently hit a peak and is slightly declining, don't expect that to remain as a trend. Alt coins and currently offline miners account for around 40-80 petahashes waiting to be pointed back towards bitcoin continuing the difficulty increase.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.

As @RuecanOnRails pointed out, mining cryptocurrencies for profit is very difficult now, most people mine as part of a community for a currency they want to support. You may be able to make profit on some currencies (usually the medium sized coins with a novel hash for example Cryptonites M7), but I wouldn't recommend you invest in hardware to mine with profit in mind, recovering the cost would be very difficult.

If you want to mine a cryptocurrency I suggest you don't go for profit, but instead for the community. You should try to find one that has a large community that you would like to support, head over to the Bitcointalk forums and check out some of the altcoins:

Cryptocurrency is very interesting, and far more than just a way to make money :)

Thanks for the post.Everything you said makes a lot of sense. I was mainly just curious about it and not really serious about making money but now i'm wondering. Do the big mining operations make money? I was curious too if they have off the grid type mining farms? Or if you didn't pay for electricity could you make money? say with solar panels, windpower or someother type of green energy.
