OC guides for AM3, AM3+, FM2, FM2+, LGA1155, LGA1150, LGA2011

FlanK3r

I see often here question about overlcocking and some question with OC settings aroudn the all "modern" platforms. So, I could working first half of 2015 and creating OC Guides for each platform seperately. Question is, what do you want here and if this thread could be something as FAQ.

I would love to see one, but remember it would be very time consuming and there's already plenty of guides out there so I'm not sure if it'll be worth it or not.

Yes, but there isn't much for legacy boards. ie LGA775/771

Would you like to work with me on this on the AMD side, I want to put a PDF document together with loads of in depth information for AMD chips like what I recently learned about my CPU and its voltage leak and heat loop.

Yes there are guides but they lack A LOT of information to be honest with you.

Just saying oc'ing amd chips have a different effect to intel chips because they're flawed in their architecture.

They aren't so much flawed as of a different architecture that is also outdated by 2 Intel generations if I remember correctly (haven't kept much of an eye on newer CPUs since my old rigs still work so well).

I got you covered there ;)

Well AM3+ still has off-package northbridge but being different isn't flawed really. That's like saying Nehalem (Lynnfield/Arrandale) is flawed because it didn't use multiplier based overclocking ;)

Thanks, and I'm not sure what you mean by the ration being locked on non extreme chips, my E8500 can be adjusted from 6 to 9.5 (my current OC is quite simply the FSB increased to 420MHz from 333MHz, and everything else on auto as I don't feel safe tweaking the other settings-g33 chipset btw).

Well that'd be the stock ratio, so its locked, what I mean is you can't leave the FSB at 1333 and just adjust the ratio to say... 12x.

Locked doesn't mean you can't change it, just means you can't increase it past a certain point :)

I always thought locked meant locked to 1 ratio, and as it happens I've got the same model xeon on its way pre-modded, just seeing that clock speed is giving me hope (mobo might struggle though).

Is it a E0 stepping chip (SLBBE)?

As they run a little cooler than the C0 (SLASB) ones.

And are you using the board in your sig? As that'll struggle I think.

Above 1.45v they kick out a lot of heat too, it was putting my 280 rad to its limit

That's the rig, the CPU is C0 stepping (the seller posted full specs AFTER I had bought it), the other one I was looking at that required me to do the mod myself was E0.

should have done yourself tbh, the sticker takes about 6 seconds ;)

the harder part is the socket mod (cut plastic tabs off with a blade)

I know, but it cost $10 less and it was done for me,and I'm planning on getting a spare anyway, just in-case I manage to fry it.
