There are not many, asus do some good ones

Is there a reason you need thunderbolt? its amazing technology but only if you have a specific use for it

Well which one is the best?

I'm not going to buy one, I have a P8Z77-v lx, and I am perfectly happy with it. Just wondering!

Currently if you cant think of something you do often that will be helped out by the use of thunderbolt there is no particular reason to get it, USB 3.0 is sufficient enough for file transfers and even most solid state external drives will not get much benefit from thunderbolt. Though if you are willing to spend the extra money and you can think of reasons for it then Asus would be your best bet with their add on cards for some of their mobos. Though it does come at a cost with the add on cards for Asus motherboards costing 70 dollars for something that does not have much uses on top of the price of a compatible Mobo if you dont have one already.

thunderbolt is a tiny bit faster from usb3, but IMO i prefer US3 as a board with thunderbolt or a pci card with thunderbolt is too expensive, but the good thing is that Tbolt can carry alot of power, it can power an external hdd without external power

tiny bit?

T2 is 4x faster and can also be used as a display cable, and supports daisy chaining as its 20gb bi directional

just saying :D

Isn't PCI-e in a cable ? by daisy chaining you mean displays ?

yeah it carries pci-e which is amazing

this is an example of dasiy chaining

So comptuer, to drive, to drive, to drive, to drive, to drive, to monitor, all connected over 1 thunderbolt connection, each device connects together and has full bandwidth

It's awesome, but there is the Thunderbolt Vulnerability.

meh anything can get hacked, I dont think its a massive issue

I wish all PCs just had like 10 thunderbolt ports, we wouldnt need HDMI, DVI, USB, etc, you can just connect whatever, daisy chain whatever

Yeah your right it's isn't that dangerous too, you have to do it physically, wouldn't 2 be enough to replace all of the above ?

Well it depends because if for example you are using a display port monitor, it would occupy a thunderbolt port

so you could have 3x 4k display port monitors, a couple of daisy chained storage arrays, and thunderbolt to a hub for peripherals

I am using a Asus thunderbolt board to a Lacie 6TB RAID, much faster than the performance I managed using an internal RAID with the built-in Intel controller, with the added benefits... all my data is external so I can easily swap PC, rebuild PC without any thought to losing data, the RAID unit is in a cupboard 3m from the desk, so no noise, and no hum and heat in my PC case from internal SATA disks.

The new USB 3 C? format is apparently capable of providing power up to 100W, so if this format gains traction it could provide more flexibility than TB..

Gigabyte Z77X-UP5 TH has thunderbolt support. Also a decent overclocker.

Yes but only when carrying a 12V line. over 5V i think its up to 20W or something like that

yes, if you have a 12V enabled port on your motherboard. if they are 5V, then its much less, i think its in the 20W range

Why how much amps does it carry ?

ill go find the docs

Wiki

Up to 2 A at 5 V (for a power consumption of up to 10 W), and optionally up to 5 A at either 12 V (60 W) or 20 V (100 W).

so yes, you need a 20V enabled chipset to do 100W. the 12V im assuming is for in car usage and such
