How about RGB strips?

RGB are good but just note white from RGB is not true white since you will always get a hint of coloring from the combination of red green and blue.

For RGB the NZXT hue works well but a bit pricey, if you don't mind some diy work you can get a roll of RGB led's on amazon and a controller for it at a very low cost in comparsion.

I just bought the 5 meter strips you can get from anywhere for ~$8 and cut it up, then I soldered wires to it and plugged it into molex/fan header/something with power. I've never used the pre-made strips for cases so I don't know how much better they are.

I attached a quick pic of my pc in progress I need to find a good way to diffuse the lights, but I kind of like it like it is currently.

No its not hard to solder them together at all. literally 2 wires, positive and ground just solder across with wires, the strip should be marked. I power mine of fan headers... do a google on the pin out of a fan header connection and just use the same positive and negative off that.

I had some bitfenix ones and the plastic coasting coating went hard and brittle and began to snap once I removed it and refitted it. I ended up getting a strip of like 10m for next to nothing off eBay and for me its just as good and I have heaps of spares so if an LED dies, I can replace the strip easy as.
