Ethernet to wifi

matulley
Go to solution Solved by cloneman,

Quite a novice at networking so will just any router work like normal even without the ADSL connection?

It should. Think of it as an invisible modem inside your wall...

Basically at my uni accommodation they only provide us with an Ethernet port, so far I have a switch to increase the the number of devices connected but things like my tablet and phone have only their mobile connections.

Is it possible to get WiFi out of the Ethernet port as at home it uses the phone connection? If so could you recommend some devices?

Spanks x

Perhaps use a router or access point?

Wireless access point should work. Maybe something like this. it only supports G, but should work for your application.

the other thing that could work and ive not got a massive amount of experiance with this is using Microsoft  virtual network card which will run the wireless of your laptop or pc as an access point, so no need to buy anything more hardware wise
