ECC on LGA 1150

Go to solution Solved by Sintezza,

ASUS B85M-G

nope that board does not support ECC ram unfortunatly, atleast not that i can find off on the Asus website.

You could use some ECC unbuffered ram as normal ram.

But i would realy not recommend it because its a tricky part.

There are diffrent type´s of ECC memory modules and not every kind will work.

Just buy normal ram.

Hi, was just wondering if I could throw some ECC ram onto an ASUS B85M-G motherboard with a Celeron G1820. Thanks guys

Steve

nope, you would need a Xeon E3 for that. and the motherboard has to support it

nah m8, you need a Xeon E3 for that because the Core series AFAIK doesn't support ECC.

Ok thanks

Well i doesnt say anything on the asus website so im just gonna assume no.

That celeron exaly does support ECC ram.

But i personaly dont think that B85 chipsets do.

Only C-series chipsets support ECC as far as 1150 goes, as far as i know. ;)

Yeah but you need a very expensive C-series board for it lol.

At least i dont know any B / H / Z / Q series boards that support ECC memory.

But offcourse i dont know all boards out of my head. :P

naah, ECC should work on most Z and H series chipsets, atleast with xeons it does... this is the first time i see ECC support on a non xeon cpu

Oh, does that mean yes?

I mean i could buy them to see if they work. These are probably what im gonna get http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4GB-2x2GB-DDR3-1333-PC3-10600R-ECC-Registered-CL9-240-pin-DIMM-Memory-RAM-/321320943696?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_MemoryRAM_JN&hash=item4ad0388050

Celerons and Pentiums do support ECC.

I have no idea why should the motherboard support ECC. On 1150, memory is controlled by the IMC, which is integrated to the CPU.

i personaly have never seen any Z or H series board with ECC support.

As far as i know, those Xeon cpu´s can only benefit from ECC, if you place them on a server grade socket 1150 C-series board.

But offcourse i could be wrong :)
