Where are the GTX 970/ 980 8GB Versions?

There is rumor that the 900 series graphics cards are going to get a VRAM upgrade to 8GB's but where are they and when might we expect them?

The earliest anyone will hear anything is January 7th at CES2015

There was also a report of people from overclock.net getting ahold of nvidia board partners where all these "rumours" were dismissed

I think it would be really dumb of Nvidia to not at least release a 6gb version at minimum since the AMD 300 series is supposed to launch with 6-8gb on all their cards

If there is going to be a 8GB model we wil most likely have to wait some time I mean 960 hasn't even been released yet.

Yeah, AMD released their 8GB 290X and a video I watched with Linus on NCIX said that by the end of November, we would have heard something about this from nVidia. I think it was just nVidia starting a rumor to have us hold off buying the new 290X cards. It totally worked on me. Don't think there will be 8GB 980s for some time. Maybe some 8GB 960s with 128-bit buses since that's just how they roll.

Same as last year. AMD released 3-6GB cards, nVidia stuck with their 2-4GB cards (other than the Titans of course).

Next year, AMD will release 6-8GB cards, and nVidia will stay with their 4-6GB models.

I know I sound cynical towards nVidia here. It's just an observation I've noticed. I still buy nVidia cards. They just so damn nice ;}D But I'm under the impression that this rumor is simply a way for nVidia to disqualify AMDs new 290X 8GB models for the short term (until we realize that 980 8GB isn't happening soon)
