Which SSD should I go with?

Hi,

 

Today I was looking through PC part picker and looked up the Intel 730 series SSD and realised that I could get a 240GB Intel 730 for around 120 USD and I thought that was a pretty good deal (link below) isn't it? I was originally planning to get the Crucial MX100 for 63 USD but then I saw this and was amazed by what I could get as I've heard good reviews about it.

 

So, is it worth me spending an extra 60 USD or so to get this SSD or not or should I go with a different SSD? I'm trying to keep my prices to as low as I can as I'm cutting it close with it right now (build link below).

MX100. I'd only reccommend Intel SSDs if you're doing a RAID 0 where consistency is key.

It isn't exactly fair, you aren't comparing two same-capacity drives... One is 240gb the other is 128gb. In my opinion it is worth the extra $60.

If you want the cheapest good SSD possible, it's the MX100 or nothing.

 

If you're willing to spend $120 for more performance, the M550 is a good choice. Not sure if it's worth an extra $60 though.

if I was going to get a 240GB SSD in that price range I'd go for an 840 evo (which i actually made that upgrade from a 120gb 840 evo recently)

if I had even more money to spend I would get an 850 pro because of the ridiculous write endurance, but I got the 840 evo for it's low power consumption.

any SSD that utilizes on the fly compression will have higher power consumption.

if you are using a laptop, the 1.3 watt idle and 5 watt load power consumption of the intel 730 is a problem, but on a desktop it probably is a great drive where battery life isn't a concern.

 

this is the perspective of somebody who will extensively mod his laptop to cut power consumption by a watt, as it only draws 6.5 watts when taking notes and web surfing

Yeah, I don't have enough room to fit in two Intel SSDs. Would an Intel 730 240GB perform faster read and write speeds than the MX100?

I doubt you will be disappointed, in fact I know you won't be. 

 

If you want more performance and you're willing to pay more for it too, go with the M550.

 

It's better than the EVO 840, Intel 730 and performs better than the MX100 (logically, higher price).

yup $120 is not bad at all. I'd pick it up from bestbuy especially if a local store carried it(my local bestbuys actually carry a few SSDs including that one.)

Looks like a solid build. Perfect for gaming. Good price to performance ratio. 

 

Only one thing you might want to consider changing:
