Fastest External storage solution for Laptop?

What would be the fastest and most cost effective external storage solution for a laptop equipped with thunderbolt2 and USB3.

-Thunderbolt to SSD

-USB3 to SSD

-USB 3 Key

(IronKey W300, Voyager GTX, Lacie Ruggedkey, Sandisk Extreme)

-Plug and play NAS drives

(G Raid, Synology Disk Station)

Any tips or opinion will be appreciated

USB 3 to HDD would be the most cost effective and in my opinion the best for a general storage solution. you could also do SSD to usb 3

i don't know enough about thunderbolt prices to give an real opinion on it

From what you have listed its not possible to decide. If you use Thunderbolt what type of drive will you be using? If its a slow as butt 5900 rpm drive you'll be better off with USB3 to SSD. So list out the details of what exactly each will be writing to as far as drive to which interface.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.
