Any last suggestions? $1500 US build (with monitor)

Go to solution Solved by brob,

I choose the z87 proo because it has wifi for the same price.. but why is the z97-a better?

For this application it isn't.

Keep the Z87-Pro. It has all the features you want at a very good price. It also has USB BIOS Flashback so you can update the BIOS without a working cpu.

With a few small changes you can get 16GB of memory.

An H100i cpu cooler instead of the Nepton 240M. It is arguably a better cooler. It certainly is less expensive.

A less expensive ssd. There will not be any noticeable difference in performance in gaming or general use.

An EVGA G2 psu. Better and marginally less expensive than the HX-750.

I've been choosing parts for the last month, my intention was to hit the $1500 limit but i went all the way to $1590 (without the headphones) i even lowered the ram from 16gb to 8gb, but i dont know what else to change i'm pretty exited about the computer how it is.. but i need to cut a little bit more.

I included a monitor because i dont have one

I'm planning to use this rig for gaming and maybe video editing.

and is there a way to include 16gb instead of 8gb and stay on budget?

i'm still missing mouse and keyboard, i think i will stick with a super cheap keyboard for now, but i do want to buy a decent mouse. (i had chossen a monoprice rebranded zowie, it was only $30 bucks but it's no longer available)

I think you need a Z97 mobo, Asus Z97-A.

Drop the Intel SSD, Crucial MX100 256GB instead (cheaper). If you still want a $120-$130 SSD, I recommend the Crucial M550 256GB.

Get the EVGA 750W G2, better, cheaper.

Great monitor, sweet build. Enjoy.

Get faster memory. Preferably corsair

no, corsair ram is super overpriced besides occasional exceptions. Gskill is probably the best ram company. This ram is good.

faster memory 1600mhz is the minimum you should get. Then a different power supply id suggest go with the EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR its the same price as the one you have on your build but is fully modular and is all around better. Also you can save some money and go with this ssd instead Samsung MZ-7TE250BW. And like the others said your mobo.

They look nice and perform pretty well (though are super expensive). You can get equal performance ram for 1/2-2/3 the price. When has he really recommended them?

Gskill is good but far from the best.

As if there is any real determinable differences between RAM from different companies these days.. G.Skill makes some of the best RAM out there.

It's overpriced because they are a trusted company.

Gskill would be a solid option though.

Name one that is better.

From the 1000's of ram sticks that has passed through my company this year.

They have all been the same. Pretty much.

We tend to fluctuate on what our distributors have.

Of the 6 DOA pairs, 3 were Gskill. The rest of Gskill have been great.

But I've been having the best luck with Kingston so far. Another big company I'm affiliated with is making the switch to Kingston from Corsair after a recent situation where Kingston went above and beyond.

I'm not saying it's better. I was under the impression that you needed a Z97 motherboard for a Haswell Refresh CPU, i.e. the 4790K. If that's not the case, stick with the Z87.

Yes Mushkin is a good brand. Not well known, but they have been selling enthusiast memory for some time. The modules are built in the US.

It's the codename for the latest line of Intel CPU's compatible with Z97. The 4790K you have in your build is a Haswell Refresh CPU.
