GabeN's new Steam controller design leaked

XTankSlayerX

141884293527.jpg

As reported by ValveTime, this new design adds what appears to be a D-pad on top of - or in lieu of - the left trackpad. It's not entirely clear if this means the D-pad has replaced the trackpad wholesale, but it's hard to imagine using the rest of the pad for anything else with a big plus symbol protruding from it.

I wonder how authentic this is, either way i probably won't be buying Valve's controller when it drops

I'm not sure why I need this in my life... to be completely honest, if I was going to pc game on my couch I'd use my mouse and keyboard (maybe I'd get a 10-keyless kb for this purpose), at least to me it seems to be perfectly feasible, maybe with a small wooden surface to support the keyboard.

I wish Valve would stop trying to reinvent the wheel.

What they could do is make a nice joystick controller with a touchpad in the middle that won't break.

So you are saying they buy a bunch of PS4 controllers and stick a Valve label on them.

If the joysticks don't break after a few months, then yes. I would be 100% okay with that.

Looks boring.

Wish they made the the haptic feedback and touch pads work properly on both sides.

It's just that the original design and concept looked unique, from their original demo with CS:GO, looked really accurate for a controller.

Now there's a bunch of buttons and the left touchpad became a directional pad...

Apparently trying to make a better aiming solution for fps on controllers is disliked by some people.

Some games require different input types. That's the beauty of a pc, you can use whatever you want! I use my Xbox controller (which I bought only for pc) whenever I play racing games as it's just better with driving imo. But whenever I shoot up a FPS, mouse and keyboard all the way!

exactly, the input methods already exist for all genres :) no need for some sort of crossover.

^ This they need to stop wasting their damn time on a controller and just focus on the OS there's no point having yet another controller that'll suck when we already have all the input devices we need or want and no steam OS to use them with.

or more generally, linux support on most games. That would be a blessing for pc gaming, not being forced to choose windows.

I'm starting to be done with valve. I've never seen a company have so much demand for products and just plain release nothing.
