Need an opinion

Number 29

Hi, doing a build soon and well I changed my plans, the main goals of this rig are 1. An upgrade path for a i5/7 later upgrade for ram (16gb) and eventually a gpu upgrade. The second goal was too do alot of gaming at 1080p, games including Garry's Mod, League of Legends, Minecraft, Runescape, Star Wars and Battlefield 3/4. I tried getting it as close to $550 before rebates as I could and now my next plan is to try and figure out how I'm going to afford Windows  :P

I'd personally go with an H81 board and just get an i5 (or better yet, just save up a bit longer and go straight to an i5) and then not have to worry about upgrading down the road.

Well I need something for now because I'll be heading off to college then and that's what the upgrading will start happening :P

Well, I'd spend a bit more and get an MSI Z97s SLI Plus board as it's about the same cost after rebates, but a much better board; and you can get a 270 (non-x) and save another $20 (A 270x is just an overclocked 270).

and depending on what games you're going to be playing, a G3258 might be a better choice as it's only $60 -- so less wasted money and allowing you to upgrade sooner.

I wouldn't bother suggesting an ssd at this point for a gaming system....while an ssd is great, a better gpu/cpu is just more important and it's not until an i5+R9 280 that an ssd really makes sense.

Go for better CPU/GPU first for sure! I just love SSDs. My PC boots in like 5.3 Second or something like that.
