Amoled Screen for your pc?

Fastbrony Racer

How would you feel about having a 4K amoled screen for your pc? I was looking at my note 4 and I thought why cant this be my pc screen. So I'm asking you guys and girls what do you think about this. Would you want one? How well will it work for gaming? can ubisoft keep digging?

Love to hear what you people or living things think.

No, it's stupid. Only thing amoled has is the power saving which we don't need and the colour reproduction capabilities, which we already have with ips.

Also if you are talking about samsung realise that they are using pentile matrix which would look AWFUL at low pixel densities.

You can get OLED tvs, not AMOLED though.

even OLED is extremely expensive, and has burn-in problems, which is why not many displays use it.

This.

I'd rather not have the task bar permanently burned into my display.

Also Samsung already invested in PLS. So. There's no need for what you desire.

It's because they have such a short lifespan. The technology hasn't been perfected to last a long time. That's why you haven't seen a saturation of AMOLED TVs in the market. For most cases you only need the SRGB color space because that's all your browser will be able to pick up on. Adobe RGB monitors are meant for graphic designers, which as a result they have the prettiest colors around. At this current time, you have to balance between monitor speed, refresh rate and color reproduction.

Instant response time and zero ghosting are great benefits, and this also allows high refresh rates like true 120Hz/240Hz easily.

Also perfect viewing angles and no possibility of backlight bleed.  Also perfect black levels/infinite contrast.  Kinda nice.

I have to agree I do not want Samsung's pentile matrix though... bleh... LG seems to be doing some great things with their own OLED implementations though.

OLED has traditionally had longevity problems, that's the last hurdle to be overcome (burn-in and color balance shift are byproducts of this flaw).  That's why (other than a few show-off TVs) they've only been seen on phones, which have a much shorter life cycle.  It's unlikely lots of people would ever keep a phone for 5-10 years and begin to encounter these problems.

You also only glance at your phone while your monitor is pretty much on like the whole time. Taskbar would burn in SO FAST.

Yup.  The technology is not mature enough for monitors yet.  Screensavers might make a comeback lol.  Although I never got why they just didn't go for a black screen after 10 minutes or whatever.  That saves your screen better than any actual screensaver pattern...

AMOLED phones are already expensive as it is with the display, can you imagine how expensive a 27-inch monitor would be?!

In the long run OLED manufacturing is actually a lot cheaper than LCD ;)

Cheaper to produce, probably, but retailers and companies will price-gouge the shit out of them before prices go lower. You'll see people at walmart selling their souls for an AMOLED TV.

OLED and AMOLED are the same thing.  AMOLED is just Samsung trying to sound fancy.  It's like if Intel went around selling "Silicon CPUs" instead of "CPUs".  Or if we all still walked around saying we had TFT-LCD screens.  There's no need to specify, all computer/phone/TV-class LCDs are TFT-driven, there's no such thing as an LCD monitor or TV that isn't a TFT-LCD.  On the same token there is no such thing as an OLED monitor or TV that isn't Active-Matrix, so there's no need to say the AM.  It's implied.

PFFFFFFFFFF, good heavens, no. With ten different convenience stores on every street corner, over nine thousand vending machines on every street and a department store in every town, Wal-mart wouldn't stand a chance in hell here.

The only reason I make the reference is that prior to coming to Japan, I lived in the United States for five years, and in that time, I saw just how rabid people get on black friday sale events, especially at walmart. FIVE TIMES.

I think the AMOLED issues depends on the panel quality. I've seen lots of complaints about problems with the motorola screens, but my S1, S2 and S4 don't have any issues with the screens.

The S1 was terrible, the S2 was great, the S3 was garbage, the S4 was good, not sure about the S5.  Motorola's problem comes from the fact that Samsung basically doesn't want to manufacture their best stuff for them, so they're stuck with a GS4-class panel currently.

Screensavers are designed to prevent burn in on stuff that burns in, including but not limited to CRTs and plasmas :) OLEDS are another type of screen that can suffer from burn in and image retention due to the degredation in brightness over time as each individual OLED is used.  So screensavers will serve the same purpose on OLEDs as they did on CRTs and plasmas.
