[ISSUE] Corsair 900D doors not opening

matetx2012

I'll get right to the point.

I just bought a 900D for my dream machine build and window panel (+ the back panel) don't actually open properly.

Here's a video of the 900D panels CORRECT opening motion: http://youtu.be/p4XPxLD0GNI?t=4m2s

Just a "click" on the rear button and the whole panel pops right off.

Now, instead, to me it doesn't open. The button just does the click and then it snaps back in place, the panels won't even move.
I explained it better in my build thread, I'll copy right from there:

The only downsight is that the opening/closing door mechanism appears to be broken...

Basically in all those 20-30 videos I saw about this case I acknowledged that to open this behemoth all you needed to do is to push a button on the rear side and the thing would just pop right off.

I tried, and it didn't work. The button went it, made a sorta metallic noise and went back into position.

After 20 minutes of struggling, I tried to pull off the tape as well (the other components are coming on Monday, so I didn't quite "fully unpacket" it yet) and still no results.

I managed to open it twice by sliding my whole arm inside the case from the bottom tray (the one you can open without actually opening the whole) and giving a quick (yet, gentle) hit on the hinges on the top.

Doesn't seem to be broken on any parts, aside from some minor paint/brushing imperfections (that thankfully are only on the inside) so I don't know.

I'm not an expert of doors, but IMO that buttom mechanism isn't really pushing like it should. The mechanism was way behind everything so I didn't bother to take a look.

It sitll opens, though, thankfully. Everything on the inside looks fine aside from a HDD cage that had the screw (toolless mechanism, the door of the cage) fell off. No big deal though, as I'm going to remove 2/3 of those because of the radiators.

So yeah, it DOES open, but I have to get full McGuyver and squeeze my whole arm into the case from the bottom. Very stressful.

Perhaps if it's a common problem we'll see if it is an easy fix.

No way in hell I'm going to rma it. I want this build done and the whole holidays waiting time would kill me even more than it already is now.

So I'm open to suggestion. Can make a quick (but with bad quality) video if necessary.

Is it getting jammed on something? I'd carefully play around with the door/hinges/button and pay close attention to any stiff points/possible jams to see what could be causing it.

Can you take a picture of the latching mechanism on your case?

Where the side panel clips into the chassis at the top.

Is it getting jammed on something?

Slightly jammed, yeah. When I press the button it just doesn't "pop off" like it does in every YouTube video in existance.

It's stuck on something. My guess is on the three hinges that actually hold the panel in place.

Because actually the mechanism works like this: you press the button and a rail slightly moves to the right, freeing up from the holes in the window panel and releasing the whole structure.

My best guess is that the sliding is either not too "long and strong" or it gets stuck in those holes and it doesn't work.

I might need 10 minutes, I just popped the whole thing into the cardboard box.

My 900D started doing this towards the end, what I did was take my finger and pull from the top of the sidepanel while holding down the bottom.

Sometimes you may need to use your fingernail as leverage or a small screw driver, it sucks for sure but I'm unsure how to fix it.

Well, play with the mechanism with the panel off and watch if its having trouble moving at any point or if its not moving enough or...

Heh, after building my dream machine I figured out the best way is to remove one of the 120mm on the front (the top most one), and then when you need it

1) remove the aluminum front cover

2) remove the fan filter

3) squeeze your hand and gently push on the acrylic window

Works great,  you just have to get used to it.

Holy mother of jesus, that is one heck of a master dream case you have, I can only dream of that one, as I can't be bothered spending the whole price of nearly 500$ in Denmark for one.. But the 750D isn't bad either, but its like anything else ''Im settling with this''.

Anyways good luck with your project, would be awesome to see a build log of it as well!
