budget IPS choice - Dell vs LG vs ASUS

Senne2150

I'm going to buy a new primary monitor and can't really decide on which one it will be. It will be used for gaming and things like Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.

It needs to have an HDMI input because my laptop only has HDMI and VGA(not an option) output.

I was looking at these 3 monitors:

- Dell U2414H

- LG 24MP76HM-S

- ASUS PA238Q

I also saw this one but I have absolutely no experience with a 16:10 aspect ratio so I don't really know what to expect:

- ASUS VS24AH

These monitors seem decent and are all in my budget range.

What should I buy or are there any other monitors I should look into?

Get this! 16:10 is fantastic, its basically the same as a 16:9 monitor but like an inch or 2 taller

If you want to stick with 16:9

the Dell U2414 is the best of the 3

If you are staying with 16:9 then the Dell, but I prefer 16:10 myself because I like the extra vertical workspace. It makes web browsing, photoshop, video editing, and 3D manipulation better, but its also harder to find proper wallpapers(unless if you are fine with cropping). Also most videos will have black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, but it doesn't ruin the experience too much.

I can vouch for LG, my 23inch budget IPS screen is great in terms of factory calibration.

That one comes pre-calibrated, for what you do I would encourage you to get that if you want great and accurate colour right out of the box. ;)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

WOW, first time post @ LTT, amazing how fast people reply here. Thanks for that.

The Dell seemed the most interesting when I gathered the information on these monitors. Does Dell have a monitor that's 16:10 but resembles the U2414H in quality?

Dell has the U2415 which has the same design as the U2414H but in 16:10

Hey Senne2150,I was on the boat with u in need of a IPS monitor around 24 inch with nice modern slim bezel . And dell and lg were the two options I came down as well. And I actually pulled the trigger on the lg.few cons on the LG IMHO First is price , currently the lg is around 219 plus tax whereas the dell comes around 290~350. Which is significantly more , second being slight faster respond time from lg, nice looking stand which is subjective ,and I actually spent few hours today research for the right monitor and came across that "all IPS panels are manufactured by LG"quote from internet. And the LG actually comes Pre calibrated as well as per description. And also quote from internet that te dell u2414 actually uses similar panel as the LG. Few cons from lg is that u can't do any height adjustment, or rotate it 90' for vertical view. And the stand looks a bit more sturdy .if you are into duo monitor set up there is a 23 inch version of the lg on sale right now for $169.model 23MP75HM. Hope this help =)
