Future plans for your PC?

melias24

Hey guys, (sorry if there has been a similar thread) i was wondering, what are your next plans to upgrade you PC, and PC peripherals/accessories? For me i'm planning on:

  • A new case preferably a Carbide Air 540, but if something new comes out, and it's better and it's cheaper i'll go for that. I will also get some white LED white strips.
  • New GPU, preferably an MSI Lightning series GPU OR a Sapphire R9 290x with their 'Tri X' cooler. May consider a GTX 970 if i see one on sale.
  • Some yellow and black sleeved cables from PCcasegear: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=30135&cPath=1357
  • Some Corsair fans to go with my Carbide Air 540, i will paint the rings yellow on them OR get some sharkoon fans.
  • I have a 134gb left of my HDD, so either an MSATA drive, an SSHD or a SSD.
  • A new keyboard with Cherry MX blue, and a white backlight (the red on my K70 hurts my eyes for some reason, i've always had sensitive eyes for light colours like red)
  • A new Monitor (Dell Ultra-sharp hopefully!)
  • Eventually an Unlocked CPU, so i can actually Overclock on my MSI mpower.....and i'll pair it with a kraken or Corsair H100i.

Anyway, what are your future upgrades/plans for your rig?

~Elias

For my build I plan on getting (in the future):

  • A full water cooling loop (not for practicality but for the looks)
  • Probably whatever the next NVidia cards are going to be (1000 series or whatever)
  • A motherboard that supports NV-Link (a new technology by NVidia)
  • Probably some DDR4 ram (when it comes down in price)
  • A full tower case with a window
  • More storage space (SSDs, HDDs, etc.)
  • A new CPU (whatever the newest one is when I purchase a new mobo and ram)
  • Three Acer IPS monitors for NV-Surround (this will probably be the first upgrade I buy)
  • Some new speakers

And that's about it  :P

Future plans?  I wish I could raffle off the thing so I could make money for court and to pay huge bills.  Heck at the very least I need to consider selling some of the components.  There is a second computer in my house anyway that is as good or close to as good as mine that my son never uses for gaming even though it was built for him so yeah.  Also his mom won't let him have the thing at her house for stupid reasons ... the *****.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Future plans for my build:

Full-sized window case mod. Screw Fractal's tiny(not really) window version, I'm going to town on this sucker.

The problem is that the steel on this thing is so damn thick that one of my diamond cutting wheels has already started to fade. wow. Good thing I got four of them.

Hey guys! This is my first time posting on the Linus Tech Tips website! I am currently building a $2000 dollar mostly gaming computer and i wanted some opinions on my current build plan:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($394.99 @ Mwave Australia)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler  ($36.00 @ CPL Online)
Motherboard: ASRock Z97 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($178.00 @ CPL Online)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($213.00 @ IJK)
Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($209.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($89.00 @ CPL Online)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE Video Card  ($519.00 @ CPL Online)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (White) ATX Mid Tower Case  ($146.00 @ CPL Online)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($134.00 @ Centre Com)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NSB0 DVD/CD Writer  ($19.00 @ CPL Online)
Case Fan: Corsair Air Series AF140 Red 66.4 CFM 140mm  Fan  ($19.00 @ CPL Online)
Total: $1956.99
Currently i am considering whether it is appropriate to buy a i7 4790k at this budget and whether or not to get liquid cooling kit.
My biggest fear would the kit leaking so  if someone could give me some personal experiences with the H100i, that would be great.
Also, i am debating on whether to buy a Asus 970 STIX  or Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970. Through benchmarks from different youtuber's, they maintain
that Gigabyte is the strongest out of all competitors. What do you guys think?
Finally, i am wondering if i should chose an NZXT H440 or a Fractal Design R4.  I've personally heard the R4 provides better airflow but
on the other hand i really like the H440's futuristic looking case. Again i receive some personal experiences with either case whether or bad.

Headphones and mic - I'd be sellin my headset so I'd need a (financially dependant) mic but I do have a webcam with an okay mic. Then maaaaaaybe a new GPU, probs a R9 '380X' or GTX 960 because my R9 270X is only just mid range nowadays.

Not on my top priority list but will defintely try to integrate the next PC into the working desk. It looks good, it's hand made and should lower the overall temperatures by at least 5-10 degrees.

Room for storage option will be sort of an issue..

Change my case from an R4 to and R5. I know, pretty pointless. But the revision fixed all the issues I had with the R4.

Grab myself an GTX 970, or the next mid/high end GPU that Nvidia bring out.

Add more hard drives. Only having one 500GB HDD can be a pain in the arse at times.

Even if I do get the R5 case. Find some 3mm LED's and change the power LED to red. Something I have been planning for a long time but can never get round to doing.

Not part of my rig, but an AMP/DAC. (If anyone is able to recommend me one, that'd be fab. ;) I have Beyerdynamic DT990 headphones. :D)

And finally get my rig watercooled. Preferably with hard tubing.

What do they know of England, who only England know?

"Well that's what I always said I wanted to be remembered for, for being honest. Nothing else is worth a damn"

For now I'm planning the following:

-probably a 500gb ssd very soon

-getting around to mounting dat h100 which is sitting in my drawer ^^

-possibly a linux partition on the new ssd OR on my current ssd if I keep that in my rig, I'll have to see as I only have 2 sata3 ports and I also have 2 1tb hdds to fit in

- OC on my cpu as soon as the h100 is installed (shooting for 4.2ghz across all cores as I don't want to touch bclk and my multiplier will only go to 42 as it's a "locked" i7)

-possibly ram upgrade if ddr3 prices drop, not in a rush though as I don't really need to

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
