HTC Customer Support Review - The Only Support that Made my Product Worse

This is slightly more of rant than a review but I would like to warn you guys about the support at HTC.

Ok so it all started this October when I noticed the purple tint issue happening to my camera (On the HTC One). If you do not know the purple tint is caused by thermal defect in the camera meaning it will need to be replaced. So I go to HTCs tech support page and start a service ticket. The first person to contact me was actually quite helpful and left me in a good mood after talking to them.

What They Said:

  • This a a known issue
  • We can fix it
  • EBay is a valid place to purchase the phone
  • Check back in 2 days to see if your P.o.P. has been processed

I did by my phone off EBay because as a student I can not afford to drop 700-800 USD on a phone.

Two days later I check back in:

  • "Sir we can not find the P.o.P. please send a new one in"

So I ask if Ebay is a valid place to buy the phone and they say yes and it will be repaired for free once we get the P.o.P.

So two days later I check back in after resending the P.o.P., Still Ebay is OK and we can't find your P.o.P..

After that I kind of just forgot for a week or two and when the camera issues started to worsen I contacted them again hoping to see if I could get my phone fixed.

  • Finally they found the P.o.P.
  • Its going to be 90 dollars

Ok I'm a little pissed that I had been lied to be 3 of their customer reps but I was willing to pay that much so I send the phone in.

One week later they send me an email saying the phone has be processed and that the new quote on the camera repair is almost 200 USD. So this is when I start to research some local places in my area that might be able to repair the phone most of them can do it for less than 100 USD. I request my phone back from HTC. After about one week of shipping the phone comes well packed in a little box and it seems like it made it back in one piece, that was last night and it just goes downhill from there.

Exhibit 1:

They wiped my phone without warning, I had it backed up so it was just a little frustrated that I had to restore everything. THEY NEVER WARNED ME ONCE. So now I'm warning you back up your phones before sending them to HTC.

Exhibit 2:

The Battery. Last night when I got the phone it was dead and seemed like it was charging rather slowly so I left it until the morning to download my backup.

This morning I get up and my phone is at 10% battery and when I look at the graph it has died twice in the last hour. I've now tried multiple chargers and none of them have any effect on the battery.

So Don't use HTC customer support ever, it is one of the worst experiences I have ever had.

Updates coming soon on how HTC responds to the dead battery.

Not really valid, considering the M8 is similarly specced to it's competition at a similar price. The only odd choice was the camera. And even then, even a lot of their lower end devices are well specced and priced. I recall seeing a Desire phone for $100 off-contract with the same specs as a Moto G.

I didn't target them specifically. Generally speaking again, phones before M8 don't really give the specs for the price charged.

Every company wipes the phone. Pretty sure it says so in the information somewhere.

HTC are alright on the customer help. It's the device support that will get you annoyed.

Similar incident here, but directly to HTC.

My HTC one phone camera had this pink tint to so i sent it for a repair under warranty, so far so good. Got my phone back everything checks out pretty well, camera works great, took about 5 days but no hurry for me, replacement phone was complete shit thou.

A day or two later, i made a phone call to a friend, and he consistently could not hear me. Tested out with voice recorder app and yeah it sounded awful, like an insane amount of static. Prior to this it was fine.

Went back to HTC, fair enough they took it in without much hassle, the service counter personnel said the engineer might have nicked something I was like okay sure, just get it fixed.

6 days later still nothing, i called the service center and asked about my phone and voila it was done, but they forgot to call me. I was like what?

Best part is they say they still needed to get my phone ready for delivery so i need to wait one more day and they will call me again. Next day i got a call at 1.30pm saying i can come for collection, problem is they close at 3pm so i had to rush my ass down to get it. What a pain in the ass that was...

What?

My brother had an HTC Sensation:

Sound didnt work...

Because it had "water damage" (some stupid label inside phone colored) he had to pay the reperation cost which we didnt pay because: instead of fixing it they destroyed the camera too. And then they we're being dicks about it isntead of giving him a new phone.

Never HTC, never again (had some bad experiences with HTC One X too)!

  • 3 weeks later...

I had a HTC Desire S from 2011, brand new.I had issues with it from the start bc the jack was very noisy and it only gave stereo in one particular position... It died(literally not even turning on) after a month, so i brought it back for repairs, to T-mobile since i bought it through them.

Okay, almost 3 weeks later i get my phone back, supposedly it was a mobo failure, anyway, phone checks out(not even jack problems) apart from that the assembly quality was never the same again... the back panel coverig the camera was shifted and you could clearly see it was tampered with in a not so professional way. Half a year later the antenna went out in it, 1 month of repair again... They fix it again, phones good, assembly still crap and the jack problems are kinda back again...

Half a year later after the software decided to flip out, and every call i made or recieved was defaulted to loudspeaker, very annoying(it was a common issue at the time, several friends with HTCs reported this). Of course at this point i was out of the warranty period, and no hard-reset/factory reset solved the problem. Of course i shouldn't even say that i was stuck with android 2.3 bc F'in t-mobile decided not to push out 4.0 for that device, even tho HTC made a 4.0 update for it.

At that point i said, screw this, and installed a custom rom that worked for 1 more year for me on 4.1, altough i've grown to hate every minute with that phone, especially when it started to get slow due to increasing system requirements from basically everything.

The only good thing that came out of that phone was that i couldn't care less if i dropped it or broke(in the end a huge dent appeared on it misteriously; put it down, and 5 minutes later when i picked it up it had a massive dent over the power button, rendering it almost unusable sicne the power button was constantly activated. Managed to bend it back with a flathead screwdriver but it looked god awful).

In the end I managed to sell it for around 20$

TL;DR: Screw you HTC, never again.
