PC Lockup Issues, Can a PC Being Too Cold Cause Lockups?

Hello, For the past few months,my new gaming rig has suffered from constant lockups( screen freezes, sound stops, devices become useless, and a manual reset is required). This will be a very long post so be prepared. I am going to leave NOTHING out as I want to limit the amount of questions asked so we can get to the bottom of this can of worms.

I live in Western NY, Warm summers and freeing winters lol. I built this PC in mid-August and it ran perfectly at my house until mid-September. At first, the lockups only happened once a week but became more and more frequent as the weeks went on. I came to a point where I could not use my PC whatsoever. I have tried EVERYTHING to find out what's wrong. I have swapped RAM out, Swapped GPU's as I have r9 270X's in Xfire. I have replaced the PSU twice. I now bought an 850W EVGA Supernova G2, top of the line PSU I guess. The ones I had before I was told were terrible ( LEPA 800W MaxBronze, Raidmax Vampire 800W Gold). I have ran Windows memory diagnosis to rule a RAM issue out. It found nothing wrong. The biggest clue I believe I found was this: I brought my PC along with every single piece of my setup to my buddy's house. I hooked everything up as I would at my house. The only things being different was the ethernet cable and the house's power itself. For almost a week, we ran my PC there, never turning it off, gaming, surfing the web and everything. We COULD NOT get it to lock up or do anything like it does at my house. This led me to believe that it was an issue with my houses power. Maybe my PC wasn't getting enough power or it wasn't getting clean power. Upon inspection, the outlet I was using was grounded ( as were the dozen other outlets about the house that I have tried) I am getting a steady wattage and voltage before during and after my PC locks up ( no spikes or dips). We also routed my PC it's own personal breaker, locked up. we turned off all breaker in the entire house so my PC was the only thing in the whole house on, locked up. I did the light bulb test, light bulb did not dim when the PC locked up. I even bought a Volt Regulator which did not help at all.

Internet connection was something I thought could be the issue. I disconnected my PC from the internet as well as using a different ethernet than the one I had been using. Both of those trials led in lockups or blue screens which can occasionally happen but not nearly as often as lockups.

I keep and run my PC in my basement as it is the only place I can get privacy and stay out of the family's way. The basement can get very cold. In the summer, it never gets warmer than 70*F or so and in the winter like right now, It can get as low as 45-50*F. Recently, I have tried very unorthodox troubleshooting. I put my PC on power saving mode and kept my case fans on the lowest setting. That night my PC did not lockup once. Normally I am not able to keep it on for 5 minutes let alone 5 hours or more! The next night however, I powered my PC on and suffered from one lockup when I started Steam but after resetting, It worked fine. The following night, I did get 3 lockups in a row when starting Steam and browsing the internet. Aggravated, I opened my PC up and unplugged my case fan on the side panel. " Why not?" I was willing to do anything. The lockups stopped after that and only happen once every time I turn on my computer. I do a manual reset and it will work until the next time I turn it on. Lockups tend to only happen on the internet or steam. Keep in mind that the connection itself has no bearing because it locked up without being connected as well. It seemed that if I managed to get a game going for awhile and avoid a lockup by luck, my PC will run fine. but I will get on chrome for a few hours after and eventually...I'll get a lockup.

So, here's the question, can a PC's lockup from being too cold. upon startup, ASRock A-Tuning says that my CPU temp is around 25-27*C. I do not know how cold other components are though. I'd assume the GPU's would be cool as well. I do recall one time moving my PC to my room where it can be freezing at night. I gamed on it all night and it worked fine there until I put it to sleep and woke it up in the morning, It locked up immediately. This is just the last thing I think this issue could be. Well, tell me you're thoughts and may Gaben be with you all

To give you an idea my room is around 40-50f all fall and winter (NH) and my system never locks up. its very odd that your system is locking up now. Did you ever think that it might be a motherboard issue?

Huh isn't cold boot error -150 Celsius.

Cold bugs can start around -75C and vary from there.

no because like I said, It ran for a week at my friend's house with no issues, his house is toasty by the way. Brought it home, immediate lockup.

Cold lockups aren't a thing unless your components are hitting around -100C, which is what happens when using LN2.

any ideas on what it could be then from reading my wall of text?

Thats really the only thing you can narrow it down to is either the Motherboard or one of your drives are dying.

I have tested my drives. Why is it though that my Pc will not work at my house but works at another house. We do have another PC that is upstairs and it works fine. I have moved my PC all over the house though with no success

Hmmm that I'm not to sure about, I would say something to do with the electric in your house. I know I had issues with my system when I first built it because the break was being tripped when it was powered on.

This is all very strange to me and even the biggest professionals I've asked have no clue what is wrong, If I am getting steady voltage and wattage ( which i know I am) then why would my PC lock up? how can I tell if I have "dirty power"? outlets are grounded and every device works fine on the house's power except my PC. Could it be that my PC is picky with power? And how come putting it on power saving mode and keeping fans on low stop it from locking up?

Another thing to note is that it locks up less frequently on power saving mode, more frequently on normal mode and rapidly on performance mode.  Amount of wattage seems to not apply because my watt meter says its only using around 80W at most times when I'm not gaming. when I am gaming. it uses a max of 350W, but normally if I manage to get gaming, it doesnt lock up in game

Dirty power isn't a thing, for one your PSU is a transformer taking AC to DC so the power your PSU receives from the wall isn't the same power it delivers to the system.

In cases like this elimination is key. Unplug everything non essential so second GPU, all HDDs other than your windows one, optical drives, fans etc. Essentially if you don't need it to boot then remove it. Once that's done try again and see if it still freezes.

Edit

no because like I said, It ran for a week at my friend's house with no issues, his house is toasty by the way. Brought it home, immediate lockup.

Could be a USB device. Remove all devices except your mouse and keyboard and see if it still happens.

Including speakers, etc.

Ive tried it lol. I used a dif mouse and dif keyboard, even ran without keyboard at all. It went without a lockup for a lot longer but still locked up. I also unplugged every device except the mouse for awhile. But.....still locked up. When I brought it to my friend's, I brought every single usb device with it too and it never had any issues there.

I'm going to do that. Idk why my PC would be weird with coldness. I do notice though and I think I may have said it but I'm not sure. If I somehow manage to get a game up and going for a few minutes. my PC will not lock up or anything. Unfortunately it usually locks up or auto reboots when I startup Steam so it's hard to get that far. Its almost like my PC needs to be hot AF

If a game is running then the PC is going to heat up, so the cold lock shouldn't occur then.

I suggest replacing the thermal paste on your CPU with Neurofen (or local equivalent) - your PC has manflu

wait no! Don't do that. please.
