No display after restart

BobsJobs

I refreshed my Windows 8.1 Pro with Acer Recovery Management. There is now no display on both my integrated graphics and my graphics card. I tried a different drive and that didn't work either. If it helps, recently, I had the Generic Non-PNP error that made it the primary monitor but I disabled it. Is it a Master Boot Record error? My computer now turns off easily at the touch of the button. How could I fix this? I am soon building a computer with Windows 8.1, would that help since I could make a Recovery Disk?

Unplug the monitor, wait a bit, then plug it back in. I had an issue like that before and this is the only thing that has worked.

What I would do is to plug the monitor in to the Mobo and then I would update the GPU drivers. Also see if this only happens after a restart and does it occur after a shutdown as well.

It also occurs after shutdown not just restart. Whenever the computer is on, there's no display.

Isn't this only for the Generic Non-PNP error?

OK, I think the problem is that you disabled the primary monitor. You have to enable it somehow. Now to enable it back I think you can boot the PC to safe mode and it should turn the display up. Not sure, but I think it should. When you're booted into safe mode right click and select resolution and enable the primary monitor. Oh yeah, to enter safe mode restart the computer and repeatedly press the F8 key. Hope this helps.

Edit: Please contact me if you're unable to boot into safe mode. It can be tricky sometimes. Than, it's a bit more complicated, but I'll try my best to help you.

No, it didn't work.

Well, then I'm sorry since I really don't know what else to do. Good luck :)

. Is there a video on how to boot into safe mode using F8? Could I use a System Builder disk as installation media to boot from?

Here's a link to how to boot into safe mode:

As for the other thing you mentioned I don't really know what you're talking about, to be honest.

My keyboard and mouse are unresponsive and won't work at all. Is there a way to fix this or a thread with the way? Plus, is it really possible to boot into safe mode with no display. My keyboard is a Corsair K40 and my mouse is a Corsair M65. The motherboard is a MSI GD-65.

The reason why I asked the second question was because a guy on Tom's Hardware said, "Hi,

This problem may arise due to Master Boot Record issues.

Particularly if you've already created a Windows 8.1 Recovery disk. If not, you'll need to use your bootable install media for Windows 8.1 or find a working Windows 8.1 device and create a recovery disk.

We'll assume that you don't have your bootable install media, and you've found a working Windows 8.1 device. On the working device, open the Charms and select Search.

In the Search charm type 'Create a Recovery Drive'.

You'll get a prompt to allow the Recovery Media Creator Wizard to run, make sure you allow it. Insert a writeable USB Key (**warning** all content on this key will be deleted).

In the Recovery Media Wizard you'll specify this usb key as your Recovery drive.

The Recovery Drive Creator will wipe the usb key, and create a bootable partition with the Recovery tools installed. Once the wizard is complete, remove the usb key, and boot your impaired Windows 8.1 via the new usb Recovery Drive.

You may need to hit ESC or F9 during the reboot to select your boot drive. Here I hit ESC and selected the USB key I created during the Recovery Drive Creator.

From the Recovery Disk Menu - select Troubleshoot and then select Advanced options.

From the Advanced options menu select - Command Prompt.

In the command prompt - type 'bootrec /fixmbr'

Hit enter. Now you would see a confirmation. Type exit and hit enter.

You have two options back at this screen...you can continue to Windows 8.1 or (I recommend) Turn off your PC and restart it.

If you haven't already, remove the usb key, and start your device.

You should be back up and booting into Windows 8.1.

Hope this helps you. "

Yes, I think you will be able to boot into safe mode with no display since basically every change you made should be truned off. Why your keyboard is unresponsive I don't know. Try finding a PS/2 keyboard which requires no drivers so it should be able to work.
