Cougar 500k keyboard: Gunning for the best membrane

brownninja97

37a.jpg

Here is something that may surprise you, a lot of people use membrane keyboard for typing, gaming, choking the chicken but there are many other examples.

There has always been a problem however, there arent many high end membranes with fully fledged features like the N-key rollover, this is because the high end is for the mechanical keyboards alone. Example being Cyborgs strike series keyboards getting major flak.

So for the slight increase in price over generic membranes you get N-key rollover so you can headbutt your keyboard in rage and everything will register as it should.

You get 6 macro keys, you get a few colours for the keyboard, sadly i dunno what colours there are but orange is one of them so if you like orange then yay for you.

There is a palm rest for those that like to rest their palms, if you dont like said rest then you can take it off and throw it at a sibling or something.

Standard media keys are present as well, you can lock yours windows key so that you dont press it(on a side note ive never accidentally pressed the windows key, how does that happen).

The domes are now reinforced with the souls of the past, this means that you dont lose that tension after 500,000 keys(get it 500k laugh.exe)

The software that comes with it has recording controls which i dont know much about.

Honestly you will be surprised by the number of people which would care about something like this, after the logitech g105/g110 and the corsair k50 sold a lot it makes sense that cougar would do something like this

"Gunning for the best membrane" kinda sounds like going for the gold medal at the special olympics... :P

I mean, I guess if you absolutely had to have macro keys and limited rgb backlit keys, I guess it's okay. But at $70, there are a few cheap mechanical keyboard options.

you either get a $20-40 membrane keyboard or you get a $120 mechanical if you want something nice.

there should be no in between. We dont need luxury/high performing membrane, its still membrane; its cheap junk that does nothing but get the job done.

Some people prefer the feel of membrane keyboards, why shouldn't they be allowed to have a high quality one with extra features?

guess we will have to agree to disagree then. I got a mechanical keyboard and I ain't going back. every membrane keyboard I use now feels cheap and not good to me.

The Logitech G110 is actually okay -- given that it is membrane keyboard. I used mine for ~2 years before switching to something else. No worn out letters, no uneven lighting, etc.

Regarding to this keyboard, though, seems a bit expensive. I know it has macro buttons and such, but a slightly feature-trimmed mechanical keyboard goes for around that price range.

I guess it depends if the extra feature(s) is a necessity or not.

i guess its just a matter of what feels just right, ive tried many mechanical keyboards and used some for a few weeks at a time but i still prefer membrane. My main problem is the noise it makes bugs me, some like it and some dont. I was looking into that new logitech keyboard but the angled keycaps is shamefully bad.

I'm not saying I prefer membrane keyboards, but some people do.  Steelseries makes a high end gaming keyboard with membrane keys as well.  What's wrong with that?

I tried mechanical, it didnt feel any better imo, therefore. I would like semi-nice membrame keyboards

While I personally love and prefer mechanical keyboards, I respect that some simply prefer the feel of membrane. I know a few of my friends tried my G710+ and absolutely hated it.

The arrogance and elitism of tech enthusiasts is hilarious (and troublesome) at times. It's like the possibility of someone liking SOMETHING DIFFERENT from them is impossible.

I heavily respect those like yourself, who understand that just because we prefer it a certain way, doesn't mean everyone else has to as well.

Yeah I just watched Linus' review. I'm so disappointed in the Keycaps. I have the G710+ and I like it as a "first concept", but some of the decisions Logitech made are literally stupid. I really hope "Orion V2" keyboard is much better.

It's also ugly as fuck to me. I hate how we can't get good, clean looking "Gaming" branded peripherals. It's so rare. Everything has to be gaudy and bright and flashy and look like shit.

Mechanical keyboards are way too overhyped/rates by the gaming community as superior.

I like Cougar. But that's on account of their rev 3.0 of their GX 1050 Power Supply (which can actually deliver 1300W+ if you push it) but I'm not too sure about their peripherals. The mouse they released last year was essentially a cheap R.A.T. knockoff though I haven't tested it and how it's built, so it might beat a R.A.T. for all I know. That said, I welcome the orange backlight, just not the juvenile design of the keyboard.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

i understand where you come from completely, i dont mind the silly edges of gaming products(fancy edges etc), a good example is the Rat 7(ignore the laser for a sec), now most people dont like the appearance, some do but either way the appearance helps with it to be functional. Now what is stupid is "gaming" products that have the fancy edges with transformers and michael bay explosions but then serve no purpose or serve to ruin the task that they set out to achieve.

The solution to this is easy, keyboards are the easiest for this, it might slightly increase the price but you can attack the people which like aggressive appearance and others which like a clean appearance. Get a generic keyboard design, make it look clean etc. Afterthat add a set of clip or add-ons which make it look aggressive, the clean people will stay with the clean version and the aggressive go for the extra plasticly stuff. They could likely do that as an optional add-on, eg buy keyboard for £60, buy aggressive add-ons for £10-15

My biggest problem however is that there are no damn mmo mouses(lots of extra buttons) with optical sensors. Someone needs to jump on that asap
