Best (silent) air cooler for 4790k

Go to solution Solved by Spev,

The NH-U14s is alright. With my 4790k I'm getting around 25c to 34c during idle like internet browsing with a few other programs open. Haven't done a Prime 95 test yet but gaming (Assasins Creed Unity has temps of around 42c-48c. That's the highest I've seen it so far at 48c during gaming, just recently installed it but it's much better than the stock cooler lol. Another thing to note about my temps is I have my Asus motherboard configured for quietness, my CPU fan is only running at like 400rpm. If I cranked that up to normal speeds 1200-1500 for the fan the cooling would obviously improve. But so far it's doing fine at low RMP and it stays really quiet.

Lol I could hear my intel stock cooler through my heatset while gaming xD

Good and silent air cooler that don't interfere with the RAM and PCI slots. I have an i7 4790k in 4.6GHz (not a huge overclock) and 3-way SLI GTX 780. My motherboard is a Maximus VI Extreme. I want the best performance possible while keeping it quiet (I can buy noctua fans later).

Thanks

well, he wants an air cooler.

why may it not interfer with pcie/ram slots?

Because I have 3 GTX 780s and a sound card, which means, I'm using all 4 PCI slots of my motherboards. If the cooler interferes with the PCI slots, I'll need to remove something. About the RAM, I have 2 low profile sticks (Corsair Vengeance Pro) and 2 high profile sticks (Corsair Vengeance).

and a water cooler is really not an option?

otherwise get the hyper 212 evo.

could try for the D15, if the RAM is still an issue a U14s might be your best bet.

I actually have a Corsair H100 in my system, but two days ago I started to have some overheating problems when I overclocked to 4.7GHz and tried to play Far Cry 4 (with Bitfenix Spectre Pro fans and Extreme mode)... And also, it looks so boring... kkkkk

How does it perform in your 3770k? (U14S)

why does it look boring?

try to reapply your thermalpaste, an h100 should be perfectly fine for you.

About the NH-D14, can I change the 120mm fan to the other side of the cooler (facing the back of the case)? This way it will only interfere with the first RAM stick, that is low profile
