I don't want you to die HD5770 :(

LDX

I don't want you to die HD5770 :(

Well I own 2 ATI HIS HD5770 that I ran on a crossfire set up (identical model)

for some reason I had one of them stored in some drawer

but it was working fine, I used this one by itself many many time..

But I wanted to re-install the crossfire with this dual HD5770

the one I'm using now and the one I had in that drawer...

But now it just doesnt want to boot up...

I mean it starts, it shows the BIOS and even the windows 7 boot screen

but then the screens goes black (my three screens)

This card overheats in just a few seconds, becuase i can teel about a temp difference

between this one and his twin brother

it is not related to the crossfire, I tested the card by itself on the same slot and nothing..

I tried everything already... (except that fridge thing and I dont want to)

dismantle it and reapply thermal paste ?

and when you boot it up only use one card and one screen until you install all the drivers

I think...HIS dead...

jk

I think it could just be a matter of re-applying the thermal paste as the guy above stated.

Spoiler

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Have you determined what part if the graphics card is overheating?

If it's the GPU, reply thermal paste (if ti hasn't been done already). If it's the RAM/power delivery, reply the thermal pads (if not done already.)

are the pads dry ? or cracked ?. unless its a broken transistor or what its called its most likely the thermal pads on the memory. when you say overhead what does that mean ? hot to the touch or does the software tell you its 90C ?

Hmm, when you pull off the cooler, is there any thermal material that touch those parts?

If there is, try changing it.

I would guess that those parts are the power delivery, but without seeing the card in person, I won't be able to say it for certain.

hot to touch... not the pipes nor the gpu

but some other IC

since i got two cards i can compare the temps

If it's just the thermal pads that are dried out, it can be fixed with changing them out.

If it's one of the chokes or other power delivery parts, it can be fixed by soldering on some new parts.

I do not remember well but I think the paste was cracked...

i think in my brain I assume it should be eternal...

I will try that first.. and try to make a video...
