WHS2011 - Client backup cleanup constantly fails

dalekphalm

Hey guys!

I'm running a WHS 2011 server and for a while now I've been encountering the following error:

"A scheduled cleanup task for Client Computer Backup did not finish successfully"

This has been happening for 63 days according to the WHS Alert Viewer.

System specs:

OS: WHS 2011 w/ all Windows Updates

CPU: Xeon 3050 at stock

Mobo: Asus G41 board (Forget exact model, an mATX one - used to be my gaming PC and worked perfectly fine)

RAM: 8GB (2x4GB) Kingston HyperX kit, at stock

RAID Card: LSI 8888elp (Only supports up to 2TB drives)

SAS Expander: RE3016 16 bay

OS SSD: Samsung 840 120 GB

RAID Software: FlexRAID

HDDs:

1x 3TB WD Green - Connected via onboard SATA

1x 3TB Seagate (ST3000) - Connected via onboard SATA

1x 2TB Seagate (Not sure of the model, pulled from a Seagate external HDD) - Connected via SE3016 SAS Expander

2x 500GB Hitachi drives - Connected via SE3016 SAS Expander

When attempting to resolve the issue, I've tried "Try to repair this issue" in the Dashboard. I've tried a few other "fixes" I found online with no luck (I don't remember the details specifically, so if someone suggests something I've done, I'll likely try it again anyway).

All HDD's check out via SMART and via other tests. No dropouts, no slowdown, no read errors, no bad sectors.

I don't think FlexRAID has anything to do with the issue, but just in case - FlexRAID is setup into the following setup: Each 3TB is it's own DRU, and the rest are combined into a single PPU, effectively creating a "RAID5" with 3x 3TB (I have plans to add one more 3TB HDD since I have a free SATA port on the motherboard).

Anyway, can you guys help me work through this? I know it's come up before. It really wouldn't be a big issue except that the "Client Computer Backup" is almost 1TB in size and growing since it's not deleting old backups as per the schedule.

I was poking around in the Event Viewer and noticed this error:

"The Windows Server Client Computer Backup Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service."

Another error in event viewer:

"Faulting application name: WSSBackup.exe, version: 6.1.8800.16400, time stamp: 0x50949597

Faulting module name: WSSBackup.exe, version: 6.1.8800.16400, time stamp: 0x50949597

Likely related.
