Where to buy media for Plex?

So I'm wanting to build up my plex library but is the only way to buy the discs and then burn them to my computer? Is there a service I can download them from such as Xbox Video. I've tried iTunes but they have locks on all of their stuff and Plex can't use it apparently.

There are those who argue that if you get a rip sourced elsewhere and you own the actual disc, it's not really illegal.

There are multiple avenues.

 

I personally rip all my Blu-Ray movies, because I appreciate the quality of an actual Blu-Ray vs a streamed or downloaded heavily compressed.

 

Most services that allow you to digitally buy movies use DRM (iTunes, Amazon, etc). Officially, you cannot play them via PLEX. However, there are guides that walk you through stripping the DRM. I won't link them due to the forum CoC, since they can be used for nefarious purposes (such as keeping rented downloads forever). They may also not always work.

 

If you can find DRM Free digital download purchases, then those should work no problem.

 

Additionally, if you have Broadcast TV, Satellite TV, or Cable TV, then you can use a Tuner in your PC to record movies and shows, and play those back in PLEX.

 

There are also illegal sources to download movies. Even if you own the movie, it's a "grey" area legally speaking. We won't go into the details of this sort of action.
