R9 295x2 crossfire vs gtx 980 sli

Hi i think it's a crazy question but if you don't care about how much money you will spend wich one will you choose and why...

AMD Radeon R9 295x2 2 way Crossfire or single

Nvidia GTX 980, 2 way SLI or 4 way SLI

just don't mind the price ! wich one would you prefer ?

At 1080p, a single GTX 980 would suffice. SLI, if you're a crazy bugger with a lot of cash.

If you're playing at 4k resolution, i'd say a single R9 295 X2.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arguing with religious people is like explaining to your mother that online games can't be paused...

4 980 will beat 2 295x2 in perfomance but the heat output will be higher

OR you could wait to see what the R300 series has to offer.

I agree, they come out in February

The 295x2 performs slightly worse than two 970s, so two 980s will outperform it by a long shot, especially when overclocked.

Personally I would go for two 970s because they perform better than the 295x2 while running cooler, quieter, using less power, and costing the same amount of moneys $$$ :)

295x2 due to 8gb of vram

It's not 8GB of VRAM.....

Each of the GPUs has 4GB at its disposal. Just because it's one card does not mean you are suddenly allowed to add VRAM. It's very misleading but the R9 295x2 actually has 4GB of VRAM per GPU so it's the same as the GTX 980.

Personally I would go for two 970s because they perform better than the 295x2

Not really true. The 980, in terms of performance, is about equal to the 780Ti so I used anandtech bench with 780Ti SLI vs R9 295X2.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1187?vs=1073

In terms of raw FPS the dual 780Ti wins (Albeit not by a long shot) but the main reason that I would say take dual 980 is because of the less heat, less power draw and less frametime variance (Giving an overall smoother experience)

Edit: Only just saw, christ the frame time variance on the R9 295x2 is pretty bad

It's 2 R9 290x on one card. If I get 2 separate R9 290x's then put them in crossfire I don't have 4GB either so this is no different. It's incredibly misleading

Note how Linus says "All 4 gigs of glorious video memory...". There is 8GB on the card for for gaming purposes with how CF works, it has 4GB

Holy shit how does anand have such different results?

Yeah it's 100% retarded. Just keep in mind with dual GPU cards: How much would it have on a single GPU? That's how much it has in SLI/CF in gaming

Holy shit how does anand have such different results?

Probably because anandtech did their benchmarks at release, and several optimisation driver updates have come out for the 970/980 in the past couple months.

Is that confirmed by AMD?

Nope from a person I know that works at amazon.  They said the date was set in February but could change if any problems happen.

4-way eVGA Classified 980's. Based on the highest benchmark scores for Fire Strike, the top user at the moment with a score of over 4000 has four 980's overclocked really, really high (approaching 2Ghz) with a 5960X overclocked crazy high. However, if I was comparing a 2-way 980 on air vs a 295X2, I'd definitely consider the AMD. The prices have gone way down and they're pretty convenient if you have space for the radiator.

Here in Finland we have some crazy deals for r9 295x2 649€(799$ish) vs the 980's up to 680€(840$ish)  :D

+ you get many games with 295x2 vs just one from 980 deals.

If I were going 4K and couldn't wait for the 980 8GB, I would definitely get a few of those and run a loop to keep 'em cool.
